Stewart, A~chibald Ogg, 5. <br /> Also the Oity Manager. <br /> <br /> The minutes of the regala~ meeting June 24th were read and were approved. <br /> <br /> The following communication was read from the 0ity Man&get: <br /> lst~ "Attached you will <br />find report in regard to the assessment, submitted to me this day by Mr. 0heston H. Markham, <br />Cle~. to the Assessors. <br /> <br /> I respectfully recommend that the Council take much-action necessary to h~ve proper <br />corrections madeon~theland b6oks, I suggest that the matter be-referred to Mr. B~rclay <br />tocheck the report made by Mr. Markham, and have the corrections made pr,mptly so that we <br />may be in position to collect the money due the City this year. <br /> <br />~u~ther~repo~ts will be made as the <br /> <br />hr. Rank ~ Hanra~an, <br />City 'Manager, <br />0ity. <br /> <br />~o~k progresses." <br /> <br /> "July ~th, <br /> <br />1930. <br /> <br />Dea~ Sir:-- <br /> <br /> ~ herewith ~espectful'lysubmit to you report of the present assesmment now <br />being made effective Januskry~lst, 1931~ insofar as the detail work regarding property hereto- <br />fore left off the Oommissionerof the Revenuers Land Book, also property formerly carried <br />in'the unknown'account. <br /> <br /> In conformity with the Stare law the Commissioner of the Revenue is empowered <br />to place any property omitted fr°m his Land Book on the w~rrent issue and for a previous <br />two yea~period. Some of the items are those which the City of Portsmouth o~n only collect <br />for one and two ~ears. My attached list is smranged so as to allow you to see which items <br />a~e~in the various classes. <br /> <br /> The values placed opposite the items carried in the unknown account are assess- <br />ment's which were placed by,he fo~mer Board of Assessors. <br /> <br /> I wish to lay stress on the fact that the Commissioner of the Revenue is the <br />only power who can place assessments on property that has never beem assessed ul~til the new <br />~ssessmen% becomes effective in 1931, and, I would suggSst that the City Attorney be in- <br />structed to ha~e these heretofore unassessed i~ems placed on ~he Land Book for 193O, with <br />the proper omitted assessments for previous years ~s prescribed by law. <br /> <br /> I have in'my possession descriptions and names of the various otasses of property <br />mentiomed~a~ove, which ~ shall be glad to ~urn over to youupon calt, and which in my opinion <br />w~ll ~ot~pp~oximate~y Fifty Thousand ~($50,00G, 00) Dollars. for one yea~ with sm average <br />om app~oximatety Forty'Thousand ($~,00~,~0~ Dollars pe~ year for a three yea~ period. <br /> <br /> The Assess rs~so <br />TM far n~ve fmnmshed about ~half~of~the city which data as turned <br />in by them is being tranSferrEd'to.permanent record by my office force. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br />O. The motion was~adopted. <br /> <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br /> <br /> The daily financial report of the Accounting Department for the day ended July ?, I93O, <br />was received and was ordered to be filed. <br /> <br /> A report was received from the City 01erk & Auditor stating that he had examined the <br />Treasurer's report, the statement from the several Banks, and the Accounting Department re- <br />port for the month of June, 1930, and-found that they agreed. <br /> On motion, the report was ordered to be filed. <br /> <br /> A bill was ~eceived from R. H. Myers, Jr.,to amount of $4y.62, for coti~ction of City <br />~?rs~n~al PropertylTaxes ~mounting to $~6.19, commission 10%, same having be~n ~pproved by <br />~ne ~i~y Oollecto=. <br /> <br />bill.
