interest in the matter and that it is to the advantage of ~he Oity of Suffolk to have the
street a uniform width, and if any money is paid for the land it will have to be paid for
by Suffolk. This la~d is of little value and if, in the future, the 0ity of Portsmouth
should ever develop its land, Ma~ylaz~i Avenue could be of an advantage. From what I can
lear~, I see no objection to dedicating the land as requested in ~r. Davis' letter. He
has been in oommuniaation with Mr. Brinkley, 0ity Manager of Suffolk, who furnished him
the enclosed blue print. If you desire to dedicate the Strip of land as a part of the
street, I will prepare the deed and it will be necessary to instruct your prope2 officers
to execute the sa~e.
YOurs very truly,
~entlemen:-

It is .my desire to call your at%enrich to the disbursement of the dog tax fund.

The State law provides that 15% .of the dog tax fund collected be remitted to
the State Treasurer the ba2ance to b~ used to pay the Treasurer ~'s fees and any claims arising
for damages done. by~dogs~ persons bittau by rabid dogs and the fees earned by the game warden
~or killing dogs. These bill~ ~o'be furnished, under o~th, to the Oity Oouncil within ninety
days.

Persons bitten by rabid dogs are not entitled to collect from the dog tax fund
for treatment until he, or she, shall first, apply to the health officer of the city for treat-
ment and the officer refuses or fails to treat the case.

Heretofore these bills against the dog tax fund h&ve been paid without the s~ction
of the Oity Council and-it is suggested that bills against the dog tax fund be first presented
to the council and that the game warden be required to investigate all claims made against
th~ dog tax fund and report his fi,~d, ings to the Oity Oouncil and, should the claim be then found
correct, the Council should be so ~dvised by the wa~den.

Under the State law any funds remaining in the dog fund at the close of the yea~,
· in e~oess of two hundred and fifty dollars, shall be transferred to the general fund of the City~
Thanking you to give this your consideration, I am,
