WEBSTER AVENUE, AND ON WEBSTER AVENUE BETWEEN B~ND SPRATLEY STREETS AND TO AMEND,eEXHIBIT A" AT~AOHEDTO A~.~ ,,,~ ~ ~ ~ ^~ ~=~?~m~ ~v~n: "AN ORDINANCE TO,REGULATE ~OTOR BUS. PASSENGER TRANSPORTATION IN THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH," ~WHICH ~AS ADOPTED BY THE O0UNCI~ 9F_~_HE_~I5a OF PORTS~OU?H ON THE 28TH DAY OF JULY, 1926, S0 THAT MOTOR BUSES WILL BE OPERATED ON STREETS, AVENUES AND HIGHWAYS OF THE CITY NOT PRESENTLY USED FOR 8UGH OPERATIONS, AND SO THAT SAID #EXHiBI~ A,# AS A~ENDED, WILL CONTAIN AN ENUMERATION 0~ ALL STREETS, AVENUES AND HIGHWAYS 0F THE CITY ON WHICH ~0TOR BUSES ARE TO BE OPERATED IN THE FUTUHE." Hutchins, the ordinance was adopted, a~d by the following vote: Ayes-- Brooks, Huto~ins, ~aupin, ~ayo, 0asr, 0gg, Stewart, NEW BUSINESS The following communication was read from the City Attorney: "January 13, Hon. OitY OoUnoil, Portsmouth, Virginia. Gentlemen: : Taere aas been pending for several years a controvers~ between the County of Namsemond and the City of Portsmcuth~as to_the responsibility of upkeep and building of. three bridges over branches of.L~ke Cahoon.~ln:N, mnsemond. County. This .~atter first arose before I became City Attorney, In October, l~2Y, a,suit was instituted. Am'the Circuit Court of Nanse- mond County by the Countyof Nansemondagainst.the City of portsmOuth, the members of its Oily Oou~ucil, Mr. W. L. Davis, S%q)erintendent of ~ater Department, and Mr. J. F. Weaver, City Engineer. The purpose of this suit was to require the City to re--establish what was~claimed to be the old county roads or to reconstruct the three bridges. The suit has been dragging for some time an~ several conferences have been held in regard to the matter. Recently, a conference was held ia the office of Mr. James H. Corbitt of Suffolk, at which M~v. Hanrahan, ~r. Davis, Mr. Corbitt amd I atten~sd on-behalf of the City of portsmouth, and all the members of the Board of Supervisors of Namsemond County, M~. Lilliston, County Engineer, and Nessrs G, K. Hutton and O. B. Godwin, attorneys for ~auaemond County, attended on behalf cf the County. The Oounty officials had a propostion of compromise to offer and on Januaz7 ~, 1931, I received ~rom Mr. Godwin a copy ef ~ enclosed letter. Mr. Davis is working= on the matter and will~ in a short tXme, h~ve estimates cf the cost so that the same may be presented to the Olty Council.
