<br /> The minutes of the regular meeting December23, 1930, and special meetings December
<br />26, 1930, and January 6, 1931, were read and were approved; ~

<br /> At this point, the following co~nunication was read from the Board Of Equalization:

<br /> In conclusion our Board feels that the Court and-the public as a whole expects
<br />that we give this work our very best thoug~ht and attention. As citizens of the City of
<br />Portsmouth we cannot afford to do less and we are sure that the Oouncil does not want to
<br />PUtthe USoourt.in a position of not being able to properly attend to~ the duties, assigned us by

<br />On motion of Mr. Ogg, ~he ~ules were suspended to hear from the Board of Equalization.
<br />Mr. H. L. Alexander, Chairman of the Board, spoke as to the communication.
<br />On motion, the matter was referred to the Budget of 1931 for consideration.
<br />
<br />The folloWing oommunic~tion was read from the City Maneger:
<br />
<br /> "I respectfully recommend
<br />the purchase of a new piece of Firs apparatus for the Fire Department. The c~emlcal and
<br />hose wagon at Des :~oines Ave. Station is in very bad condition and should be replaced by
<br />a pumper of a suitable capacity.
<br />
<br /> The ~resent hose wagon has been in use since 1917- its original cost was $~00. The
<br />cost of new pumping unit would be approximately $13,000.
<br />
<br /> At~ached you will find letter from Ohief Alexander, also from Mr. Grant, mechanic for
<br />the Department.#
<br />
<br /> On motion, She recommendation was referred to the 1931 Budget.
