<br /> Motion of Mr. Brooks that tax on soda fountains be as follows: "Each person
<br />who shal~ engage in the business of selling soda water and other soft drinks from a fouu-
<br />tain where the rental is 975.90 pe~ month or over,$51.O0; and where the rental is less
<br />than $75.00 per month, $2~.00, such license to be in addition to any other license tax re-
<br />quired for said business" was adopted.

<br /> Motion of Mr. Brooks that the ordinance as amended be adopted, ~ud same was

<br /> ReSolution from the Virginia Electric & Power Company in which they propose to
<br />improve and extend the w~ite ~way system and to purchase ~he city-owned part of said system
<br />together with an appropriation of $816;O0 laid on table March 2$th, was taken up and read.

<br /> Motion of Mr. Brooks that a new Page Nine as presented by the Power Company be
<br />substituted for the original, was adopted.

<br /> Motion of Mr. Ogg ~P~ovided however the City may discontinue such system or a
<br />part thereof at any time it may so desire' be added to Section 2, Page 2 was adopted.

<br /> Motion of M~. Ogg that the proposal as smended be adopted together with an appro-
<br />priation of $5?6.00 for increased cost for balance of year, was adopted, and by the follow-
<br />ing vote:

<br />"A RESOLUTIONT0 PROVIDE FOR THE SALE By THE OITY OF
<br />PORTSMOUTH OF CERTAIN STREET LIGHTING EQUIPMENT IN
<br />SAID OITY TO VIRGINIA ELECTRIC A~D POWER OOMPANY,
<br />AND TO AUTHORIZE AND DIRECT THE EXECUTION OF A BILL
<br />~F SALE CONVEYING THE SAME TO SAID OOMPANY, AND TO
<br />PROVIDE FOR CERTAIN STREET LIGHTIEG REQUI~ENTS OF
<br />SAID CITY.

<br />t ~S~ the C~ty of Portmmouth owns one hundred and twenty seven (12y) bracket
<br /> ype o~namen~a! street l~ght~ng f~xttu-es mounted on concrete poles, owned by Virginia
<br />Electric and Powe~ Company, (hereinafter called "Power Oompany"), and.which are located
<br />on H~gh Street, between Chestnut Street and ~xth Avenue a~d on Middle Street between
<br />South and. Quee~ Streets~ and a~so owns fifty six (~6) five (5) light cluster bracket fix-
<br />tures installea on the uompany, s iron ~rolley poles on High Street, between Water and
<br />Chestnut Streets, all of said lights being located within t~e limits of the Oity of Ports-
<br />mouth, and as[shown on the m~ which is attached to the form of bill of sale, which form of
<br />bill of sale ms attached to this resolution and made a part he~eof; and

<br /> ~S the City now bears the bhrden of maintenance of the one hundred and
<br />twenty seven (1275 street lighting fixtures first hereinabove mentioned; and
<br />
<br /> WHERe. S, ~t ms deemed to the best interests of the Oity to sell and convey at
<br />and for the price hereinafter mentioned all of the above street %ighting equipment to the
<br />said Power Oompany, and to i~ose upon the Power Company the buraen of bea~ing the cost
<br />of maintenance thereof, the City only purchasing and payiD~ for the electrfc current con-
<br />sumed by the street lighting system; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the City desires the Power Company to instk!i and operate a more modern
<br />street lighting system in accordance with the proposal of the Power Company, dated March
<br />21, 1931, (copy of which proposal is attached to and made a part of this resolutmon), and
<br />the Oity to pay thereafter the rates specified in the said proposal.

<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TH~ GOUNGiLOF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH:

<br /> Section l; That the City do Sell and convey unto the Power Company at and for
<br />the ptu'chase price of Three Thousand Two Hundred and Fifty Nine Dollars ($3,2~9;:00) the
<br />above mentioned street lighting equipment, and that the City Manager be and he is hereby
<br />authorized anG directed to execute in t~e name of the City and on its behalf the form of
<br />bill of sale which is hereto at~aohed and made a pa~t hereof, and that the City Clerk be,
<br />and he is, hereby authorized and directed to affix the corporate seal of the City and
<br />attest the same.

<br /> Section 2. That 2he Virginia Electric and Power Company be, and it is., hereby
<br />requested to install, operate and maintain a street lighting system mentioned an~ described
<br />in the proposal of the Virginia Electric and~ Power Company, dated Ma~ch 21, 1931, which is
<br />attached to and made a part of this resolution, at the ~ates and upon the te~s ~nd condi-
<br />tions specified in the said proposal; provided, however, the City 'may discontinue said
<br />
