Stewart - 7- - <br />Minutes of the regula~ meeting held on Nov~nber 24th, were read and approved. <br />~ne following communications from the City Mao~ger were read: <br /> <br /> 1st - <br />Dorothy Miser at <br />$45.00. <br /> <br />'I am attachi~ bill from Mrs~ Elizabeth 'SMart for board of Edward, Mary and <br />the Portsmouth Orphanage for the month of November, 1931, amounting to <br /> <br />i recommend that the amount be made available for payment 6f this bill. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Ogg, the reco~nendation was <br />$45.00 was ma4e fo~ same. <br /> <br />concurred in and an appropriation of <br /> <br /> 2nd - 'Bil~ from the Children's Home Society of Virginia, in the amount of <br />is attached, covering board of Walter Williams from November 1st to Decem'cer 1st, 1931. <br /> I recormm~nd that 621.44be made available for pa~nent of this bill. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Ogg, the recommer~iation was concurred in and an appropriation of <br />$21.~4 was made for same. <br /> <br /> 3rd - ' I s~m attaching bill from Sheriff R. Glover for meals ftzrnished city pri- <br />soners at the City Jail for the month OM November, 1931, in the s~mount of <br /> This bill has been properly checked and aooroved by the City Auditor and I <br />reconzmend that the appropriation of the above amount be ma~,~ <br /> <br /> Notion of M~. Stewart that the reoo~nsndation of the Oity Manager be concurred in <br />and that an appropriation of 6~34.38 be made to pay said bill, was adopted, and by the fol- <br />lowing <br /> <br />Ayes - Brooks, Hutohins, ~upzn, Mayo, 0asr, Ogg - 7. <br /> <br />Nays - None. <br /> <br /> ~th - ~As per your instructions, I am attaching hereto bill off W. D. Clark in the <br />amo'm~t o f $230.58, for f,~vnishing gratis prescriptions and drugs for the month of November, <br />also two bills From W. M. C~vog~an amounting to 620.00 and one bill From A. Sampson for <br />~or b-c_rial o£ poor. <br /> I recommend that $258.08 be appropriated to cover these bills.' <br /> <br /> Motion of ~Mf Hutohins that the recommendation of the ~ity Manager be concurred in <br />and that an appropriation of 6258.08 be made to pay said bills, was adopted, and by the fol- <br />lowio~ vote: <br /> <br />Ayes:- Brooks, Hutohins, Maupin, Mayo, Oast, Ogg, Stewart <br />Nays - None. <br /> <br /> The followiug communications From the Oity Attorney were read: <br /> <br /> 1st - ~I respectfully report on the following applications made to you for ~he <br /> relief of taxes for the year i931: <br /> First: Petition of Clara W. Kay For relief o~ taxes on building a~sess~d <br /> a~ Seven Hundred ($700.00) Dollars, at ~1022 S. Elm Avenue. I find this building was razed <br /> in June, 1930, and the 'taxes amounting to Eighteen Dollars and Fifty-five cents(618~55) - <br /> should be relieved. <br /> Second: Petition of Twzn Czty permanent Buzl~ng Assoc~atmon for relief <br /> of building ~2004 Holli~ay Street, assessed at Four Hundred ($400.00) Dollars. This build- <br /> ing was destroyed by fi~e in Au~st, 1930, and the remains razed dtzving that year. The sum <br /> T~ Dollars and Sixty Cents (610.~O) should be relieved . <br /> Th'ird: Petition of ~ac H. Beale for relief off buildir~ ~2517 Gibney St., <br />assessed at Fifty ($50.~00) Dollars. This building was removed in 1930, and the sum of One <br />Dollar and Thirt~-T~ee Oe~ts ($1.33) should be relieved. <br /> Fo-~th: Petition of J. T. Hansen for ralief of building ~216 Second St., <br />assessed at One Huudred ($100;~0) Dollars. This building was removed in September, 1930, <br />and the taxes amounting to Two Dollars and Sixty Five Cents(62.65) Should be relieved. <br /> Fifth: Petition of Home Insura~uce Agency for relief of building ~1803- <br />1805 Glasgow Street,' assessed to R. A. Bullock Estate, at Five Hundred (6500.00) Dollars. <br />This building was removed in November, 1930, and the sum of Thirteen Dollars and Twenty- <br />Five Cents(S13.25) should be relieved. <br /> Sixth: In addition to the above, I received a petition of Vincent L. Par- <br />ker, attorney for Bishop A.Jk Bremn~an, for reiieff of a portion of 1930 taxes on property at <br />the northeast corner of Clifzord and Ef£ingham Streets, assessed to Henry Long, ~lO13 Ef£ing- <br />ham Street, assessed to R.A. Robe~tson and E. T. White, and ~722-724 Clifford Street., asses- <br />sed to J.H. Ivey. This property was purchased bY Bishop Brennan, fo~ church purposes, by <br />deeds dated February 12, i~30, and recorded'on February 27, i~30. Accordingly, it has been <br />used for church purposes for ten months of 1930, which would relieve, under the oolicy adooted <br />by the City Council, the property o~ the following taxes: ~ - <br /> N.E.-co~ner of Clifford & Ef£ingham Bts., assessed to Henry Long - $ <br /> lO13 Effingham Street, assessed to R.A.Rcbert~on & E.T.
