<br />lot to the Portsmouth Coal and Ice Oompany, Incorporated° The Portsmouth Coal and Ice
<br />0ompany, Incorporated, by deed dated May 2, t929, and recorded in Deed Book 92 - B page
<br />313, conve~ed the lot to the Portsmouth Goal and .Ice Holding Corporation.- The Portsmouth
<br />Goal and I~e Holding 0orporation by deed dated June 23, 192~, and recorded in Deed Book
<br />92-A oag~ 394, conveyed the lot to Oha~les R. Welton and E. Thompson. From 1920 until
<br />1924 ~he lot was assessed to the Portsmouth Coal and Ice 0ompany, Incorporated. From 1925
<br />to the present time, it has been assessed to Chas. R. Welton and E. Thompson. For some
<br />reason '¢m~no~n, in the year 1922. this lot was also assessed to $. D. ~,{auoin with a valua-
<br />tion of $100.OO and in ' ~ ' '~ ', . · ' = -
<br /> 1923, 192~, 1925 ~.nm 1926 z~ was likewise assessed to S. D. Maupin.
<br />In 1927, !928, 1929 and 1930 it was assessed to W. G. Eaupin, Jr., w-ith a valuation of Two
<br />Hundred ($200.00) Dollars. It appears that the lot was erroneously assessed to the Maupins
<br />
<br />for the years 1922 to 1930

<br />The following communication from the 0ity Attorney was read:

<br /> ~'At your last meeting you referred to m~ the petition of Thomas T. Rawis et als.
<br />Trustees of Fifth Baotist Church, asking relief for taxes on property 821-823 Clifford St.,
<br />for the years 1929 amd 1930, by reason of the fact that one end of the house owned by the
<br />Trustees is occ~oied by the pastor of the church as a parsonage.
<br /> I find that the Trustees of the Fifth Baptist Ohuroh purchased this property
<br />from the ~kmerioan National Ba~d~ by deed dated July 18, 1929, and-acknowledged and recorded
<br />on 'August 26, 1929, and that the pastor of the church took possession of one end of the
<br />house shortly after the day the deed was recorded. Therefore, the church should be relieved
<br />four months' ~taxes on one half of the property assessed in the name of Sarah L. Johnson
<br />(white) amo-~uting to Seven Dollars and Ninety-Five Gents ($~.95) with interest and oenal-
