Brooks, President,
City Council,
City of Portsmouth.

Dear Sir:

It has been my pleasure to be present at the last two meetings of your Honorable
Body hearing discussion relative to a certain petition presented to your Honorable Body some
Week ago, asking that the present Electrical License Tax be changed to a fee system with a
small tax for such license.
As a signer of the said.petition I wish 'to vindicate myseIf as to why I become a
par~y to the said petition. I ~as :reformed that certain c~ty officials would give their sup-
port to the said petition. I have later found that I have been mis tuformed as to the true
facts in the case.
I wish to submit two reasons why it would be detrimental for the good of our city
~o make any char~es in the present license tax of electrical contractors at this time.

1. It would impose double duty in the Electrical Inspector office relative to permits and fees.

2nd. It would transform the Electrical Inspector office into a Electrical instructor office,
relative to the present day Electrical Code, thereby requiring the attention of the Inspector
at all times as to how the work should be larooerly done.
Therefore I respectfully ask that tie petition of which I ~m a party of, be tabled
indefinitely.
Respectfully yours,

H.0. Pollard,
201 Dinwiddie St. 0ity.
P.S. Please present this letter for publication in our local papers."

Motion of Er. Mayo that the privilege of the floor be granted to anyone present
interested in the subject, was adopted. No one speaking; therefore, Mr. Mayo's motion that
the matter be referred to the consideration of the 1933 License tax bill, was adopted.

- NEW BUSINESS. -
~ne following letter from the City Attorney, was read:
