0ctcber 25th, 19~2. <br /> <br />'National Bearing Metals Corporation, <br /> Portsmouth, Va. <br /> <br />Honorable ~ity Council, <br />Portsmouth, Va. <br /> <br />Gentlemen:. <br /> <br /> When the city tax invoices were rendered for ~he year 1931, we were charged <br />for lets numbers~27 and 28 in block 7, East~ Green St. when as a matter of fact it shotuld <br />have read Washington St. ' <br /> Upon investigation it was found that the lots were not our property, but that <br />of the Southern Ry. Go., and we should not ~have be~n charged'with the taxes. The amount cf <br />$6~8~ was deducted from the total assessed against us for that year, and the balanoe paid. <br /> We have. again been charged with taxes on the above property, and have today <br />straightened the matter out ~ith~ the Commissioner of Revenue. <br /> We are writing to reques$ that we be relieyed of the t4xes, penalty, interest <br /> <br />Yours very truly, <br /> <br />August, <br /> <br /> National Bearing Metals Corp., <br /> Southern Brass Div., <br /> A.H. Parrish of audit of ferry becks and accounts for month of <br />was. received and ordered filed. <br /> <br /> Mr. Brooks called attention to the action of the 0ounoil at last meeting in <br />.allowing the 0ity Manager to transfer funds from one sub-account to another sub-account in <br />the same department~ as being contrary to the budget ordinance. On motion, same was re- <br />ferred to the 0%fy Attorney; <br /> <br /> Mr. Brooks said that the .statement presented by the City Manager at las~ meet- <br />ing, of $88,279.00 owing by the City October 1st, while not questioning the accuracy of same <br />was not fair to the late city Manager. <br /> <br /> The City Manager in reply advised that the statement was given to the Council <br />as a statement of facts and was not intended as a criticism of any one. <br /> <br /> On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />0ity Olerk. <br /> <br />Approved <br /> <br /> <br />
