The following commuuications from the Oity Attorney were read:

"In reference to the bill for water s~pplied the Norfolk Oounty Jail, which was
referred to me to collect under date of June 6tn, 1933, I wrote to Mr. A.O. Lynch, 0ommon-
wealth Attorney of Norfolk 0ounty, as follows~ -
' At the last ~meeting of theCity 0ouncil there was refex~ed to me
a claim against the County of Norfolk amounting to $6,965.87 for
water furnished the Norfolk County Jail from May 1,1923, to APril
30, 1933, which biliwas presented ?o the BOard of Supervisor~ at
its meeting held on May 9~ 1933, and payment refused. I was mn-
struoted to collect the bill, and if necessary to enter suit for
that-purpose. The question of future bills is also involved in~
this matter. If you care to discuss this matter, I will be glad
to meet you or arrange for a conference on this matter at any
time."
Mr. Lynch notified me he would take the matter us with the Board of Supervisors
at its next meeting and I have received from him the following letter under date of July 22,
1933:
'At the last meeting of the Board of Supervisors of Norfolk
County a committee from said Board consisting of Messrs.~0ole-
man, Smith and Pearson was appointed to take up with the 0ity
Council of the Oity of Portsmouth the matter of a claim of
said City against the County for water furnished the No~folk
Oounty Jail. I will tha~ you to bring this matter to-the
attention of the GounciI at its next meeting and arrange for
a conference with our committee prior to the next meeting of
the Board which will be held on the first Tuesday in August."
It appears that t.he Committee named in the letter desires to take up the matter
with the Council in con~erence, or, as I was verbally informed by-Mr. Lyuoh, with some com-
mittee of the Council. I will be glad if you will arrange for s~oh a conference before the
next meeting of the Board of Supervisors..

Motion of U~r. Ogg tha% a committee of three, of which the 0haimman shall be one,
be appointed to consider this matter with a like committee from the Board of Supervisors,
was adopted. Er. Ogg and Mr. Fox, with the Chairman, were appointed on said Committee.

"At your last. meeting you referred to me a communication of Mr. Preston P. Taylor
requesting that taxes for the years 1921 to 1925, both inclusive, upon the property assessed
as lot 91 Block 35, 2201 southeast corner of Effingnam and Fayette Streets, be relieved.
I find that during the years 1921 to 1925 Willie Wilson owned lot I Block 35 at
the southeast corner of Eff ingham and Fayette ets., and that the same was properly assessed
to him. For some unknown reason, the assessors of 1920 assessed this lot to Lawrence Lassiter
and assessed to Lewis Lassiter lot 1 Block 28, which belonged to Lawrence Lassiter. This con-
tinued in 1922. In 1923, lot 1 Block 28 was transferred~to Sallie Boone and l~t I Block 35
was transferred to Lewis LasSiter. All taxes on lot~l~Block 35 in the name of Willie Wilson
were paid for the years in question and also all taxes on lo~ l'Blook 28 were paid. The as-
sessments on lot i Block 35 in the name of the Lassiters are erroneous and the following
taxes charged thereo~ should be relieved:
(1) Lawrence Lassiter Lot I Blk. 35, 1921, $23.10
" " " " " ", 1922 23.10

(2) Lewis Lassiter Lot I Blk. 35 192~ 23.10
Motion of Mr.

Brooks to concur in the Attorney's recommendation was adopted.
