Dear Sir: On June 1st of this year your company moved their district offices from Ports- mouth and ~Norfolk to Rocky Mount, N.O. These offices had been located here for the past forty-two years prior to their moving to Rocky Momnt. We u~derstood at the time these cf- floes were moved that it was done to reduce your operatimg expenses in am effort to keep your expenses within your income, and this ~as due to the great loss of b~siness your company had suffered in the past year or more. In view of this, a~d it being our desire to help the railroads, we did not protest the moving of these offices last June. I believe your reports will show that y~a receive more business through your ware- houses in Portsmouth which are located en Hampton Roads than f~om a~y other port served by your company. ~hen you consider this and the large amount of local business your company en- joys from Portsmouth and Norfolk, I am sure ~yeu will agree that this is the ~best location for your district offices and that these offices should be in Portsmouth. In view of these facts and the nice increase in business your company has received in the past few months, which we have every reason to believe will continue, we ask that you re-establish your district offices in POrtsmouth at an early date. On behalf of the Oity of Portsmouth, I urge you to give prompt consideration to the re-establishment of your district offices in Portsmouth and when it is established, we trust you will again place Mr. G.M. Oobb in charge of this district, as he is well know~ and very popular in Portsmouth; he is a great asset to you~ company in this district, not only as a good operating afficial, but as a bus,ness solicitor.
