At a special meeting of the Oity 0ouncil held April 17th, 1934 at 8:00 P.M., <br />there were present: <br /> <br />Vernon A. Brooks, Leslie T. Fox, W.R. Hutchins, S.B. <br />H.F Parrish, the Oity Manager. <br /> <br />01erk presented the oath of office of H.F. Parrish. <br />The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br />Moore, J. Alden Oast, President <br /> Oity 0ounci!." <br /> <br />up and read. <br /> <br />The License Tax Ordinance for t935, laid on <br />The following changes were suggested: <br /> <br />table at last meeting, was taken <br /> <br />See. 2 - Real Estate agents asking for a reduction. <br /> <br /> Sec. 3 - Mr. B~ooks to make beer license "on premises,, $25.00. Retail Wine <br />and Beer "on premises., $50.00, <br /> <br />Sec. 4 - Mr. Brooks to make motion pictures, $201.OO. <br /> <br /> Sec.ll- Mr. Brooks to read "each.orivate automobile weighing 2500 lbs. or less, <br />$8,00; over 2500_and not over 3000 lbs., $10.O0;-more than 3000 lbs:, $10.00 for first 3000 <br />lbs. and 40 cts. per one hundred for each 100 lbs. in excess of 3000 lbs., etc. Each truck, <br />van or automobile used by any oerson, firm or corporation for business or private use, but not <br />subject for hire, one ton or l~ss, $16.00, etc. <br /> <br />folk. <br />trucks. <br />to reduce the <br /> <br />@cc.18 - Mr. Brooks to strike out and make Sec. 3 to cover. <br /> <br />sec.24 - <br /> <br />Sec.45 - <br /> <br />Tax on Ice wagons referred to City Manager. <br /> <br />The Oity Manager suggested that local laundries be made same as Nor- <br />Mr. Brooks suggested that local laundries be credited with tax paid on <br /> <br />Mr. Brooks that the Oity Manager reconsider tax on merchants and restaurants, <br />small merchants and the merchants who will have to have a restaurant license also. <br /> <br />See.y6 - Mr. Brooks to make license $16.00 and refer to City Manager. <br /> <br />Sec.77 - Mr. Lockly of the O. & p. Telephone Company protested against the pro- <br /> showing the amount of <br /> <br />posed increase in tax on poles and conduits and presented a statement <br />tax now paid by the Telephone Company to the City. <br /> <br />The City Manager presented the following: <br /> <br />"SEOOND HAND BUILDING MATERIALS. <br /> Each person, firm or corporation en~aged in the business of buying and <br /> selling second-hand building materials, $76.00. <br /> Any person licensed under this section shall not purchase any second- <br /> hand building materials of any description until the person Selling <br /> the same shall h~ve first obtained a permit from the Chief of Police <br /> setting forth his ownership thereof and authorizing him to make such <br /> sale." <br /> <br /> Several interested citizens spoke in regard to the item in the ordinance af- <br />fecting them, asking an a~justment of same. <br /> <br /> On motion, the ordinance and the suggested changes, were laid on table until <br />next meeting. <br /> <br /> Mr. Brooks called attention to the $500,00 bond re~ired of owners of for-hire <br />cars, stating that since the repeal of Prohibition, the ordinance was of no effect a~d asked <br />that it be referred to the City Attorney. <br /> <br /> <br />
