Gentlemen:
licenses.

At the last meeting of the City Council, concessions were made in Motor Vehicle

However, no action was taken in the matter of Motor Trucks.
Therefore, we would ask that some concession be .made in this particular business.
The Local Motor T~mck Business in Portsmouth is almost prohibitive for the own-
ers to meet expenses. When you consider that Motor Trucks in Portsmouth are taxed just double
the rates as applied in Norfolk, some reduction should be made in order that we may operate
under a competitive basis.
For your information, a 2 1/2 ton for-hire motor truck in Norfolk is licensed
for $30.50, while in Portsmouth the tax is $61.00.

Very respectfully,
We beg to submit herewith our petition for a reduction in license tax for deli-
very trucks.
Private autos are being used in the city for commercial purposes and for which
said auto license the sum of ten dollars is assessed.
Feeling that an injustice and hardship is being imposed upon our already over-
burdened industry, we are asking that the present assessment of twenty one dollars on laundry
trucks be reduced to fifteen dollars, the amount of state tax.
Thanking you for your immediate attention in the matter, and that you may grant
our recf~lest, we are,

Very truly yours,
