At a regular meeting of the City Council, held June 26th, 1934 at 8:00 P.M.,

<br />Vernon A. Brooks, Leslie T.-Fox, W.R. Hutohins, S.S. Moore,~ J.Alden Oast,
<br />H.F. Parrish, the city Manager. ~
<br />
<br /> Minutes of regular meeting held June 12th and special meeting of June 19th were
<br />read and approved.
<br />
<br />The following communications from the City Manager were read:
<br />
<br /> 1st - "I submit herewith request from the Virginia Department of Highways for
<br />permit to install one 12,000 gal. tank. for-the.storage'of gasoline, on. the corner of Deep
<br />Greek Road and the Norfolk & Portsmouth Belt Lmne Railroad, near what ms known as "G" Siding
<br />of the Norfolk& Portsmouth Belt Line Railroad. Capt. Shannon, Chief of the Fire Prevention
<br />Bureau, advises that he sees no objection to the installation of this tank.
<br /> If you grant the permit, requested, the installation of this tank will be
<br />advertised in accordance wi'th ordinance adopted by the Council June 28th,
<br />
<br />Notion of Mr. Fox to approve said request, was adopted.
<br />
<br /> 2nd - "I am pleased to adv?e that ~he contract with Norfolk County, dated Sept-
<br />ember 10th, 19~3, regarding t~e water mal~s and. f~re hyclr~ts in Cradock, Norfolk County and
<br />Port?mouth, which was authorized by you oF March 2yth, 19~$, w~s adopted by the Board of Su-
<br />pervisors Sf Norfolk Oounty, May 8th, 193~, and has now ~een smgned by the proper officers of
<br />both boards.
<br /> Deed conveying the properties acquired by the City through this contract,
<br />has~heen signed and is now being recorded in the office of the Oler~ of Norfolk County. The
<br />prePs:ties acquired will be recorded on the books of the Water Department in June 193~ ac -
<br />counts, at their appraised value."
<br />
<br /> Motion to file same and for the City Attorney to see that all legal require -
<br />ments are complied with, was adopted.
<br />
<br />The following communication from the City Attorney was read:~
<br />
<br /> ,At your!asr 'meeting you referred to me a communication from Mr. J.P. McDan--
<br />iels requesting that~he be refunded the sum of $6.01 paid for personal property tax for the
<br />year of 1933.
<br /> I find that Mr. McDaniels moved to the City of Portsmouth from North Carolina,
<br />in May 1933 and should not have been assessed for taxes for that year. Re was compelled to
<br />pay this tax in order te obtain his automobile license on June 1, 1934. He is entitled to
<br />this refund."
<br />
<br />Motion of Mr. Hutchins to concur in the Attorney's recommendation was adopted.
<br />
<br />- UNFINISHED BUSINESS-
<br />
<br /> An appropriatlon of $1500.00 for-asses~s~ent ~500.O~ for each of the two asses-
<br />sors, and $500.00 for clerical help, laid on table June 12th, 193~, was taken up.
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Moore to make said appropriation.was adopted, and by the follow -
<br />ing.vote:

<br /> The following ordinance placed on its first reading June 12~h, was taken up and
