"The term of office of the Civil and Police Justice will expire August <br />1934.' The ordinance requires the successor to be elected in July." <br /> <br />~ Motion of Mr. Brooks to go into the election of Civil and Police Justice for a <br />term of four years, beginning September 1st, 1934, was adopted. <br /> <br />The following application for same was received: <br /> <br />"July lOth, 1934. <br /> <br />Honorable Oity Cotmcil, <br />Portsmouth, Virginia. <br /> <br />Gentlemen: <br /> <br />I hereby make application for position of Civil and Police Justice. <br /> <br />Very respectfully, <br /> <br />Harry 0uthrietl." <br /> <br /> Mr. Moore nominated Mr. Cuth~iell, and there being no other nominations, <br />Outhrielt was elected, andby the following vote: <br /> <br />For Mr. Outhriell: Brooks, Fox, Hutohins, Mayo, Moore Oast, Parrish. <br />Against Mr. Cuthriell: None. <br /> <br />The following letter was read: <br /> <br />"Lee Hall, Va., <br /> <br />June 29, 1934. <br /> <br />Hon. J. Alden Oast, <br />President, City Council, <br />Portsmouth, Virginia. <br /> <br />Dear Sir: <br /> <br /> In oompiianoe with the ReSolution of the Oity Council of PortSmouth granting an <br />extension of fifteen days to allow us to comply with the Ordinance requiring off-street bus <br />stations, this is to advise you that it is now our intention to comply with this ordinance <br />within.ninety (90) days from the effective date of said Ordinance, i.e., 6/28/34. We respect- <br />fully request, therefore,~t-hat the Council grant us the 90 days from June ~Sth, 1934 to eom- <br />plete detaile. <br /> <br />adopted, <br /> <br />Yours very truly, <br /> <br />PENINSULA TRANSIT CORPORATION <br />J.M. Dozier, .President". <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr~ Brooks to place the following ordinance on its first reading, was <br />and by the following vote: .A~es~ Brocks, Fox, Hutohins, Mayo, Moore, Oast, Parrish. <br /> Nays: None. <br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND RE-ORDAI~N SECTION FOUR OF AN ORDINANCE <br /> ENTITLED 'AN ORDINANCE TO REGULATE MOTOR PA~SS~ENGER BUSES OPERATING <br /> FROM POINTS BEYOND THE LI~IT~ OF THE OITY, PROV~ING RULES AND REG- <br /> ULATIONS FOR THE USE OF THE STREETS OF THE CITY BY SUCH BUSES AND <br /> PROVIDING FOR BUS TERMINALS AND PRESCRIBING PENALTIES FOR THE VIO- <br /> LATION THEREOF, ADOPTED NOVEMBER 28th, 1933." <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />CITY CLERK. <br /> <br />Approved - <br /> <br />President. <br /> <br /> <br />
