Municipal Bldg.,

Dear Sir:
I would appreciate your reading the £ollcwing communication to you~ council at
its next regular meeting.
The Lemgue of Virginia M~nicipalities will hold its 2gth ~n~ual Oonvemtion in
Bta,~t~n~WecLuesday aud Thu-~y, Beptembe~ 19th and 2OthJ It is expecte~hat as usual-re-
duced railroad fares*will be ~btainable and that the ne~esss~y railroad certificates may be
secured by writing to this office.
I sincerely hope that a large delegation from your municipality may attend this
meeting which will be adapted more than ever to the curren~ needs of Virginia municipal offi-
cials. Included i~ the pregram~are such important subject~ ~ Emergency Reli~f,.H~ghw~ Ap-
propriations, Eun~cipal Finance, Housing, Federal-Oity Re£ammons, personnel ~ramn~ng, mu~z-
cipal Planming and Public Works$~ Nationally known authorities are expected to be present to
discuss some of these subjects. In addition important League business is to be transacted
and committee reports presented. A complete program will be mailed to you later.
The two days preceding the League Oonvention, the Virginia Police Executives As-
sociation will meet and en the day before the Leagme Oonvention, the Buildi.ng Officials Oon-
ference of Virginia will meet. At these meetings, important problems relatmng to these divi-
sions of the government will be discussed and excellent programs have been prepared. It is
hoped that the cities and towns will send their Police Officials and Building Inspection Of-
ficials to these meetings. ~ull infsrmation regarding the Oonvention .headquarters and reser-
vations will be mailed later.
On account of important committee assignments and for other reasons, Mayor West
of Newport News, President of the League, has requested me to secure a list of all who expect
to attend ~he Oonvention as so~ as possible so that committees may ~e ~amsd in advance cf the
Oonvention. We have long felt that ~he annual Oonvention cf the League should be.much better
attended than it ever has been. Much good is derived from the meeting by each~official in at-
tendance. It is not sufficient to have a small delegation f~om your muniCip, ality.~Eve~y coun-
cilman, mayor, city manager, and other officials holding prominent places in your municipality
should be present. Otherwise they will never k~ow fully whatassistance is given at these
meetings. ~e~ us all cooperate this year in endeavoring to secure the attendance of every im-
portant municipal official in the Brats. We feel that the results will more than justify any
sacrifice which may have to be made to make ~his possible.
Most cordial and hospitable invitations have been zeceived from the officials of
Staun~on. Indications are that we will have an enjoyable as well as ~n instructive meeting.
I~zformal discussion of ou~ mutual problems is more necessary this year pe~haps than ever be-
fore. Please cooperate with us in this work and let us hear from you as soon ~s possible,
giving us the names of your delegation.
Vem~ truly yours,

Morton L. Wallerstein, Executive Becretary."
