Brooks, Leslie T. Fox, W.R. Hutchins, S.B. Moore, J. Alden Oast, <br />H.F. Parrlsh, J.R. Stewart, City Manager. <br /> <br /> Minutes of regular meeting held August 28th and special meeting of Beptemher <br />1st were read and approved. <br /> <br /> The followtng communications from the City Manager were read: <br /> <br /> 1st - "I am pleased to advise that ~ E.G. Shirley, Commissioner, State High- <br />way Department~ advised under date of September 4th that the State-Highway Commission added <br />to the State Hmghway mileage in Portsmouth, effe~ive July let, 1934, 1.~9 miles of Gosport <br />Road, from the City limits te Elm Avenue, and is to be known as a part of State Highway <br />Route <br /> I have been handling this ~it~ the State Highway Commission since you <br />adopted a resolution regarding this on Nay ~th, 193~. This addition to the State Highway mile- <br />age will result in the City receiving ~proximately $2,255.00.per year additional highway <br />maintenance funds from the State, and $Y50~00 per year additmonal construction funds., <br /> <br /> On motion, same was ordered filed. <br /> <br /> 2nd - "I am~advised by the State Highway Department that an allocation of <br />$30,000.00 has been made from the Federal .Emergency approprxation for improvements to Route <br />~8 in Port,curb, and Mr. C.S..Mullen, Chief Enginee~ of the State Highway Department ad- <br />~se~ under date of August 31st, that the Bureau of Public Roads remuires an~o~' <br />act, to the effect that the municipality wmll maintain such highways after.the improvements <br />are made. <br /> In view of this requirement, I recommend that I be authorized to sign the <br />attached maintenance agreement covering the improvements to be made on High St., from Orawferd <br />to Ohestnut <br /> <br /> Notion of Er. Fox to concur in the Manager, s recommendation and that he be au - <br />thorized to sign the maintenance agreement on part of the City was adopted, and by the follow- <br />ing.vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Brooks, Fox, Hutchins, Moore, Oast, Pettish, Stewart 7- <br />Nays: None. - <br /> <br /> 3rd -~ "The Manager stated that he had recently received assessments made by the <br />State Corporation Commission on properties of public utilities for the year 1934, and in view <br />~ the reductions made, he had protested the assessments and is handling the matter with the <br />State Corporation 00mmission.
