213. <br /> <br />February lPtb~ tgM~, <br /> <br />The following letter was read: <br /> <br />To the Honorable City Council, <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia. <br /> <br />"1912 Lincoln Street <br /> Portsmouth, Virginia, <br /> January 21, 1935. <br /> <br />Gentlemen: <br /> With reference to our situation as a merchant of thePCity of Portsmouth, holding <br />a large nnmb. er of accounts on which we have been unable ~o secede payment, we respectfully sub- <br />mit the situation as follows: <br /> We extended credit to t~eee workers i~ good faith, in order to co-operate <br />with the project engineer in charge at that time, Er. Gay. As lang as Mr. Gay, handled, the <br />matter, we were given considera~ on and our interest was considered° It was mutually under - <br />stood between the employees, the engineer who was endeavoring to take care of the men, and our- <br />selves, as to how the bills were to be oaid. <br /> We have acted in goo~faith, believing ourselves to be showing a spirit of <br />co-operation in helping to make arrangements with the men, and do not feel we should be pena- <br />lized by not being reimbursed for the merchandise we fur~shed as outlined. Fox to pay same, was adopted. <br /> <br /> The report of the Oo~oensation Boemd on the compensation of the 0ommonwealth At- <br />torney, was referred ~o the 1935 Budget. <br /> <br /> The compensation report of the 0ommissioner of Revenue and City Treasurer, for <br />January, was presented. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Oast to approve said .reports, if such approval is oono'~rred in by <br />the City Attorney, was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Brooks, Fox, Hutchins, OaSt, Parrish, Stewart - 6. <br />N~ys: None. <br /> <br />the <br /> <br /> The Compensation report of the 0ommonweaith Attorney, for January, was presented. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr~ Fox to approve said report, if such approval is concurred in by <br />City Attorney, was adopted, ~and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Fox, Hutchins, Oast, Parrish, Stewart - 5. <br />Nays: Brooks - 1. <br /> <br /> The reply of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board to the resolution adopted by <br />the Oity 0ounoil, January 22nd, in reference to prohibiting the sale of beer and wines from <br />l:OO A.M. to 5:00 A.M. was presented, and on motion of Mr. Fox, referred to the City Manager <br />and 0~ty Attorney for cor~erence with the A.B.O. Board on the subject. <br /> <br /> The Project ~anager of the Virginia Emergency R~lmez Administration made a re- <br />port of the operation of the Emergency Rel~ f Administration for January, 1935. <br /> <br />On motion ordered filed. <br /> <br />St. be <br /> <br /> Privilege of the floor was granted to Mr. C.N.
