Fox, W.R. Hutchins, B.B. Moore, J. Alden Oast, <br />J.R. Stewart, City M~uager. <br /> <br />Vice President J.R. Stewart in the Chair. <br /> <br />Minutes of regular meeting held Ju~y 23rd, were read and approved. <br /> <br />Report of Committee. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hutchins, of a committee of W.R. Hutchins and J.R. Stewart, aD- <br />pointed by the President, to go with a delegation to Washington to try to secure more work for <br />the Navy Yard, reported that the delegation went to Washington on August 8th, with Congressman <br />Darden, also accompanied by Senator Byrd, waited on the Secretary of the Navy in reference to <br />work for this Yard~ and that he was of the opinion that this Yard would sb~are equally with <br />other yards i5 the next allocation and that the ~mount of work sent to this Yard within the <br />next two or three months, would be materially increased. <br /> <br />The following communications from the City Manager were read: <br /> <br /> 1st - "I sm pleased tM report that on August 5th, the City received <br />a check from the Alcbholic Beverage Control Board, Amounting to $17,893.83, which has been <br />placed in the General Fund. <br /> $6,000.00 of this money has already been ~opropriated to the <br />F.E.R.A. and W.P.A. work now in progress in the ~ -" <br /> <br />On motion ordered filed. <br /> <br /> 2nd - "This is to inform you that Mr. Trent Mays has been placed in <br />the position of Sealer of Weights and Measures and License Inspector, heretofore held by Mr. <br />Cch. Walton, and that Nm. J.M. Broughton has been re-instated in the Police Department, with <br />the rank of Lieutenant, to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Lieutenant Sykes." <br /> <br />On motion ordered filed. <br /> <br /> 3rd ~I P~ave a recommendation from the Building Inspector and the <br />Chief of the Fire ~revention Bureau, tha~ a dilapidated dwelling at ~15 Third St., which is <br />causing consider~ole' complaint from residents in the neighborhood, be advertised for sale for <br />taxes and bought in by the City, if necessary, with a view of having the building removed. <br /> The further statement is made that it was found necessary to <br />remove the front porch, which was dangerous to the passing p~olie.
