Hudgins, City Treasurer, ~ud stated he desired to pay the Hofheimer License
tax. The Olerk informed him the check was payable to the wrong party and also Mrs. Hudgins'
name was not correct, and she told him to take it back and get a check payable to Mr. A.E.
Parker, City Collector. Shortly thereafter, the Manager of the local store came in with the
check and was told the same thing, Nothing was further heard about the m~tter until after
the penalty date passed and Mr. Walton, the former License Inspector, notified the Manager
that he must obtain a license. The Manager then paid the license with the.penalty. I under -
s~and that Hofheimer~s firm contends that after the first check was returned ~hat they imme -
diately sent another check by a colored man, payable to Mr. Parker. Mr. Parker .has no know -
ledge of this c~eck; it never reached him an~ has not been cashed.
