October 22nd~ 19~5. Section 1: That all and singular the terms and condi- tions of said form of deed between the City of Portsmouth and the Virginia Electric& Power Company be, and the same, are, hereby approved, sm.d accepted by the City. Section 2: That the President of the Council and the City Clerk of the City of Portsmouth be, and they are hereby, authorized and directed to execute in the name and on behalf of the City the said form of deed, and to affix the seal of the City thereto, attested by the City Clerk, after it has been executed by the Virginia Electric & Power Company, thereafter record the same in the Clerkts office of the Court of Hustings of the City of Portsmouth at the expense of the City. Section 3: This resolution shall be in form and effect from and after its passage." - NEW BUSINESS - Motion of Mr. Stewart to go into an election of a member of the Council to suc- ceed the late Hugh_ F. Parrish, was adopted. Mr. Stewart nominated Mr. James T. Hanvey, and on motion of Mr. Hutchins, the nomination was closed. Vote being taken, Mr. Hanvey declared elect'ed, and by the following vote: ' For Mr. Hanvey Brooks, Fox, Hutchins, Moore, Oast, Stewart Against Mr. Harlvey None. Bii! Of J. Shirley Hope, State Game Warden, for $19Y.50, for destroying 79 tagless dogs at $2.50 each, was read. On mo~ion of Mr. Hutchins, the Treasurer was authorized to pay same in her hands from collection of Dog taxes. The f~!lowing letter was read and referred to the 1936 Budget: and there being no other nominations, was from funds "In regards to our letter of Sept. 2!st, we, the Portsmouth Central Labor Un- ion, are still waiting for an answer. As you understand we are in favor of this free text book system and we hope that you will include this in the 1936 Budget. Hoping to hear from you soon, Respectfully yours~ E. V. The following lette~ was read and on motion ordered filed: "W~ desire to acknowledge mud record our deep and genuine apprediation of the geneFous support which was so promptly forthcoming from you in connection with our recant ef- fort.to retain the.management at Hampton Roads of the American HemptonRoads-Yankee a~d Oriole Steamship Lines. It was not only very helpful, but exceedingly encouraging to receive tang~_- ble ex~pression of ~he confidence and support of practically all the organizations in the area affected by these steamship services. The prompt and vigorous action taken by you and other organizations in regard to the matter was doubtless responsible in large measure for the successful outcome of our efforts. Motion of Mr.' Stewart to appoint a committee to inform Mr. H~nvey of his election as a member of the Oity .Council, was adopted, and the 0hair appointed Messrs. S~ewar~, Hutchin~: and Moore on said Committee. ' Approved - On motion ~adJourned. City Clerk President.
