The following letter was read:

"We, the undersigned sign painSers of the City-of Portsmouth, do herFoy ask
your honorable body to cha~ge ~he law which now exists in the licensing of a sign painter.
We quote to you your present ordinance which requires each individual sign
painter, sign letterer card artist and commercial artist to pay a license of $26.00.
We contend that the vol~e of sign business in this Oity does not Justify a
sign painSer to pay this rase of tax, therefore we ask this honorable body to reduce the li -
cense of a contracting sign painter to a tax no~ exceeding $15.00.
We also feel tha~ we are not asking too much of this body ~o offer an amend-
mens to Section 79 under (b) which would give the righ~ of a licensed contracting sign paint-
er to employ ~uy man that he may see fit ~nder his license.
Hoping you take favorable action as soon as possible and give us the right to
have representation at this hearing we beg to remain,
Yours very truly
