<br /> Minutes of re~alar meeting held January l~th, were read and approved.

<br /> The Committee appointed to present re~olutione of respect for ~rs. Cora S. Dar-
<br />den, made the following report, which was, on motion of Mr. Stewart, adopted:
<br />
<br /> "WHEREAS, Providence has called from among us, Mrs. Cora S. Darden, for many
<br />years a faithful member, of ~he School Board of Portsmouth, ~nd
<br /> WHEREAS, the passing of Mrs. Darden has deprived the community of a loyal and
<br />unselfish friend, and one whose entire life ~has been devoted to better education and the up-
<br />building of her City, -
<br /> NOW THEB~FORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, that
<br />we sincerely regret and deplore the demise of ~rs. Darden, whose high place in our educational
<br />life will be diffic~ ~o fill and whose wise counseI and influence will be felt by many for
<br />years to come.
<br /> BE IT FURTHER P~SOLVED, that these resolutions be spread upon the records of
<br />the Council of the City of Portsmouth and that a copy be sent ~he bereaved family.

<br /> The following communications from the City Manager were read:

<br /> Motion of Mr. Cast to concur in the Manager, s recommendation and to lay the re-
<br />quested appropriation of $11,000.00 on table until next meeting, was adopted.

<br /> The following communication from the City Attorney was read:
<br />
<br /> ~'At-your last me~t~ng you referred to me a com~unioation from ~r. B.M. Schwetz
<br />fo~ a refund' oh taxes paid for 1935 on proper~y 120~-6 Queen S~reet. I find that a permit was
<br />issued for the wrecking of this building in November, 193k - #6633°
<br /> The Commissioner of Revenue tells me that the building was torn down-and shou~
<br />not have been on the Land Book for 1935. It is assessed for $300.00 and the sum of $7.95
<br />should be refunded to Mr. Schwetz., -
<br />
<br />Motion of Mr. Cast to concur In the A~torney~s recommendation, was adopted.
