NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />The foll~wing letter was read: <br /> <br /> "For the Boy Scouts of America, in the name of the Scouters Club of Ports <br />mouth, I have leased the~iu ty Auditorium for the night of Feb. llth, 1936. This lease is -f~ <br />the purPose of holding~the Anniversary Week meeting of all Portsmouth Boy Scouts. No admis- <br />sion is to be charged and the general public is invited to attend the meeting. The meeting <br />will consist of the Court of Honor for Scouts receiving advancement awards, and a few re - <br />marks by various people, on Scouting. <br /> <br /> The SCouters Club is a vo!un~ary association of men who furnish the leader - <br /> ship for the Boy Scouts or.This City, and is a non-profit making cl~o. In fact, it has no dues <br /> nor &ny money.~ <br /> <br /> The $15.OO rental for the Auditorium has been paid to W.L. Davis, Supt., by <br /> me, with my personal funds, as witness receipt hereto attached. <br /> <br /> The Scouters Club respectfully request the City Council to refund ~o them the <br /> $15.O0 paid for the rental of the City Auditori,mm for the night of February llth, 1936. <br /> <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br /> Robert A. POwers, Jr., President, <br /> Portsmouth Scouters Club, <br /> Motion of Mr. Hutchins ~o make said refund, was adopted. <br /> <br /> The following letter was read and referred to the City Attorney: <br /> <br /> "I own the property 2918 Queen St., which is a vacant lot. The house which <br />was on the land burned in 1933 and the Commissioner of the Revenue left the building value off <br />the assessment in 1934. The Assessors for some reason assessed the property with a house at <br />the value of $600.00, although they can not find a house on the !an~. Please relieve the <br />property of the ~axes charged on the house for 1935 and request the Commissioner of theRevenue <br />to omit the assessment for 1936. I hope some day to be in a posi~ionto pay my taxes. <br /> <br /> Yours very truly, <br /> <br />Revenue, <br />ment. <br /> <br /> Richard S. Collins." <br /> The Compensation Report for JanuarM, of the City Treasurer, Commissioner of <br />Commonwealth Attorney, was presented, and on motion of Mr. Hutchins, approved for pay- <br /> <br /> Mr. Fox called attention to a Bill offered in the State Senate, by Senator <br />Norris, ~uown as Senate Bill No. 178 ~to provide for.the supervision, regulation, restriction <br />and control of the extension of certain oublic service facilities, and to prescribe the func- <br />tions, powers ~ud duties of the Sta~e Co~ooration Commission, in connection therewith. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Fox tha~ we go on record as opposing said Bill, 8nd to request <br />our Representatives in the Legislature to use their best efforts to defeat the same, was <br />~dopted. <br /> <br />Approved - <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />Clerk. <br /> <br />President. <br /> <br /> <br />
