Moore, <br /> <br /> Minutes of regular meeting held Jsnuary 28th were read mud approved. <br /> <br /> Mr. Moore, Chairman of Committee on Norfolk & Portsmouth'Traction Compem_y mat- <br />ter, stated that.his committee would have a complete report at the next.meeting. <br /> <br /> The Cit~ .Manager presented the following resolution: <br /> <br /> '~W~!EP~$, Arthur Everett Pa~ker was appointed City 'Coliector by the Council <br />of the City of POrtsmouth, Virginia, and did quslify by furnishing a surety bond in.the pen - <br />alty of Thirty Thousand Dollars ($30,000); s~id.bond having been executed by the Maryland <br />Casualty Company ~ud covering the acts of the said Arthur Everett Parker for a period begin - <br />ning on the first day of February, 1933, and ending on the first day of February, 1934; and <br /> <br /> WHEP~AS, said bond has be~n continued in force by continuation certificates <br />to the first day of February, 1936; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is deemed advisgols to have the said bond continued in force to. <br />the fifteenth day of April, 1936: <br /> <br /> NO~, THEREFOP~, Be it resolvedby the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- <br />ginia, that the said Arthur EVerett Parker s_hall be required to have his present bond contin - <br />ued in force up.to and including the fifteenth day of April, 1936, and thereafter the said <br />Arthur Everett Parker shall have his present bond continued in force for additional oeriods <br />of one (1) year each as long as he shall continue to hold the office of City Collecto~ of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia.~ <br /> <br />O~'.mo~ion, Said Resolution was adopted. <br /> <br />MOore was excused from further attendance. <br /> <br /> - UNFINISHED BUSINESS - <br /> <br />continued on <br /> <br /> The following ordinance continued on table from last meeting, was, on ~otion, <br />table until next meeting: <br /> <br />WAN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE BORROWING OF ONE HUNDRED A~ THIRTY <br />THOUSAND DOLLARS, IN ANTICIPATION OF THE REVENUE FOR 1936, AND PRO- <br />VIDING FOR THE ISSUANCE OF A NOTE OR NOTES TITEREFOR., <br /> <br /> The following communicatiOn from the City Manager, laid on table at last <br />meeting, was taken up: <br /> <br /> "A ~.P.A. project for grading, repairing, rehabil'itating and resurf~.cing <br />streets snd roadways, known as Project #65-31-1195, has been prepared by the Engineer s of - <br />lice, by which the Federal Government supplies: <br /> <br />$26,5Y2.00 for Labor <br /> <br />Virginia <br /> <br /> 1,500.00 <br /> 9, ~56.7~. <br />$37,528.75 <br />$ 16.oo <br /> lC, 517.75 <br /> <br />$10,933.75 <br /> <br />Superintendence <br />M~terial <br /> <br />against the City,s appropriation of <br /> <br />for Labor <br /> " Material & Equipment <br /> <br /> - City's To~al <br /> I recommend an ~opropriation of $11,O00.O0 from the funds received from the <br />Electric & Power Co~pany, for this purpose." <br /> <br /> Notion of Mr. Fox to ~opropriate $11,O00. Darden, member of the School <br />last meeting, was taken up. <br /> <br />Superintendent of Schools, announcing the death of <br /> Board, from First District, continued on table from <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Oast to go into the election of a member of the School Board <br />to succeed Mrs. Darden, was lost, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Fox, Oast - 2 <br />Nays: Brooks, Hanvey, Hutchlns - 3. <br /> <br /> ~rs. Tripte~t was gr~uted the privilege of the floor. She spoke in favor of <br />the election of a woman to the School Board. <br /> <br /> <br />
