At a regular meeting of the City Council, held on March lOth, 1936, at E:O0 <br />P.M., there were present: <br /> <br /> Leslie To Fox, J.-T. Hanvey, S. B._MOore, J. Ri <br /> Vice President, J.R. Stewart, in the Chair. <br /> <br /> Minutes of regular meeting held February 25th, <br />of February 26th, were read and approved. <br /> <br />Stewart, City Manager. <br /> <br />and regula? adjourned meeting <br /> <br />The following communications from the City Manager were read: <br /> <br />1st - "I am attaching hereto caption of an ordinance <br /> <br /> 'A/~ ORDINANCE I~'TPO$ING A LICENSE TAX FOR THE <br />PORTS~QUTH, VIRGINIA, FOR THE YFJuR BEGINNING~JAy let, <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. <br /> <br />2n~ - <br /> <br />enti t! ed: <br /> <br />CITY O~ <br /> 1936.'" <br /> <br /> FOx To place said ordinance on l%s first reading, <br />The Manager PresenTed The following resolution: <br /> <br /> ~APPLICATION RESOLUTION <br /> <br />was adopTed. <br /> <br /> A resolution authorizing ~heE.B. Hawks, City Manager, <br /> to file an application to The Un~~ca <br /> through the Federal Emergency Relief Administration of <br /> Public Works for a grant. To aid in financing the con- <br /> stanchion of ~ hi h school building .and desig- <br /> nating E.B. Haw~- s C~ish such in- <br /> formation as ~o~ment m~y~eque~t~- _ <br /> <br />Be it resolved~by ~he Co.u~ncit of the Ci~ of Portsmouth_,V_~a.Va. <br /> <br /> Section 1. ~TDm~t ~E.B. Hawks~ City__lEanager, be and he is~autho- <br />rized to execute and file a.u application on behalf of the City of <br />Portsmouth. Brooks. <br /> <br /> 3rd = "I received the following letter, dated February 21~th, from the Ports- <br />mouth Lumber Corporation: <br /> 'There is a building on the north side of Cuthriell St., <br /> in rear of and adjoining our plant, which is in a dilap- <br /> idated condition. All of the windows and doors a~e out and <br /> it is an invitation to tramos to enter. <br /> Recently this building was'afire and the apparatus was <br /> forced to extinguish the blaze. The building in its pres- <br /> eh% condition is a fire manace. <br /> <br /> <br />
