Powers, Jr., for $25.00, for defending Bryant Battle, charg- <br />ed w~iSh murder, approved by Judge Bain, waa received, and on motion ordered paid. <br /> <br /> Bill of Leo P~ Blair, for $25.00, for defending John Culpepper, charged <br />arson, approved by Judge Bain, was received and on motion ordered paid. <br /> <br />The following letter was read: <br /> <br /> ~According to an agreement dated April 28, 1936, the Colored Old Folks Home <br />Association deposited with Nr. ~.L. Davis~ Superintendent of the W~ter Department~ fifteen <br />dollars for the use of the City Auditorium~ Sunday, Nay 24th~ 1936, for concert put--pose ~for <br />charity. <br /> ~e are asking if you will please have this amount returned ~o the Association <br />as ~the concert was held solely for chari~y. <br /> <br />Very truly yours, <br /> <br /> J.H. Corprew, Treas., <br />Colored Old Folks Home Assn.~ <br /> <br /> Motio~ of Mr. Oast to refund $15.00, was adopted. <br /> <br /> Compensation [r~oorZ of Treasurer, Commissioner of Revenue, ~nd Commonwealth <br />Attorney, was received, and, on motion of Mr. Stewart, approved. <br /> <br /> The following letter was read and referred to the City E~uager. <br /> <br /> ~ne young people of the Harrison ~ard h~ve no oark or means of recreation. <br />The Young Peoples~ Lea~me of the Prentis Park Presbyterian ChurCh have ~utieipated put,inE a <br />tennis court on some land that has been loaned them for that purpose. We wo~uid'appreciate <br />any help that the City could give in rolling the ground so as to enable us ta fulfill our <br />plans and have a tennis court which the young people need. <br /> <br />Very truly yours, <br /> <br />Miss Audrey Grimes, President.~ <br /> <br /> Mro Stewart stated that our License Tax Ordinance t ~ <br /> a~es "beer on premises~ <br />$50~.O0, and ~wine and beer off-premises~ $Y5.00.
