Fortunately there are no ~ersonalities involved, and I am thankful that such is the case. For Mr. Hawks, as a gentlem~u and an honor~ole citizen, I hold the hi~heet regard an~ esteem and I am Truly thankful to him for the service heretofore ren- dered. Unfortunately, however, situations in public administra- tion arise which force one, in honesty to his constituents, to forego momentarily at least the fact of personal friendship and to deal solely in an attitude of unaffected business. Such a status is ours today and it is required that I meet it in frank- ness ~ud honesty. Thus, since r,y earnest belief is - that the vote of the people clearly indicated an emphatic~desire for a change I do not feel that the authority is mine to deny it. I therefore move that the office of City Manager be declared recant, immediately." Harper - Leigh, Howard, Lawrence, Warren, Weiseman, Wilson - For Mr. Hawks - Fox, Grimes, Hutchins - 3 Motion of Mr. Hutchins to make the elect ion of Mr. Ha~per unanimous, was Mr. Fox voting ~No&. 6 Motion of Mr. Wilson to grant the former City Manager a vacation of thirty dayswith pay, and that an appropriation of $$16. g6 be made for payment of same, was adopted, and by the following vote: Ayes - .Leigh, Fox, Grimes, Howard, Hutchins, Lawrence, Warren, Weise- man, Wilson - 9 Nays - None on motion adjourned.
