Hutchins, <br /> Commissioner of the Revenue." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Weiseman, the Auditor was instructed to charge same for col - <br /> <br />lection. <br /> <br /> The following letter was read: <br /> <br /> "On December 8th, I paid a delinquent tax bill on my home, ~310 Dinwiddie St., <br />with its interest and ta~ penalty. <br /> Later, on December 15th, I paid up all my taxes due the City, so I .am asking <br />the City Council to refund to me the sum of $~2.20, the amount of penalty and interest on <br />this bill. <br /> Respectfully,. <br /> <br />(Signed) Mrs. W~. C. Corbltt, <br /> 310 Dinwiddie St., City." <br /> <br />Mo~ion of Mr. Howard to refer to the City Attorney,was adopted. <br /> <br /> Report of W. P. Jordan ~ Company, for auditing the books and accounts of the <br />Norfolk County Ferries, for November, 1936, was received and ordered filed. <br /> <br />Mr. Wilson presented the following resolution: <br /> <br />"WHEREAS, Mr. E. R. Story was appointed April llth, 193~, and <br />was shot while in discharge of his duties, March 5th, 1935; <br />his leg was amputated soon after and he never recovered, and <br />died November 30th, 1936 <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Story had a wife and child depending on him for <br />support, and since his death, have no s%oport whatever, <br />BE IT RESOLVED , that this Council appropriate $360.00 for <br />1937, payable $30.OO~for the support of Mrs. Story." <br /> <br />which was, on motion of Mr. Howard, referred to the City Attorney. <br /> <br />Mr. Weiseman offered the following resolution: <br /> <br />"During the campaign immediately preceding the recent Councilmanic <br />election certain promises were offered to the people, ~d I am of <br />the opinion that the time has now arrived when a definite proce - <br />dure must be adopted to the end that past promises be not promises <br />promiscuously made, but promises in truth, faithfully kept. Of <br />significance, Portsmouth citizenry, was assured that there would <br />be a New Deal with respec~ to our City Administration, and as I <br />interpret the will of the people at large, it was based upon such <br />a holding out that an emphatic majority vote was accorded $o our <br />present ~ayor. Consequently, there would appear to be in hand a <br />very definite mandate from the people to their representatives i~ <br />the Council that certain changes must be made and an honest effor~ <br />pu~ forth to accomplish a programme dedicated to the advancement <br />of our City. Supporting strongly the Just right of our people to <br />direct that their represen~atlves shall create reasonable condi ~ <br /> <br /> <br />
