January 22, 2002 <br /> <br />- City Manager's Report - <br /> <br />02 - 23 - Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $378,314 in excess funds received <br />from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) for maintenance of City streets. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $378,314 in excess funds received from the <br />Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) for maintenance of City streets. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· In accordance with Section 33.1-41.1 of the Code of Virginia, the City of Portsmouth <br />annually receives a specified amount of funding per lane mile of City streets for <br />maintenance of the streets. The new rate for each year is not calculated until the fall of <br />each year. The $378,314 represents the increase over the amount anticipated in the <br />2001-2002 fiscal year. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· $100,000 of the additional funds will be utilized for concrete sidewalk and curb repair <br />and the balance will be utilized for the street overlay program. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $378,314 IN EXCESS FUNDS RECEIVED FROM <br />THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR MAINTENANCE OF <br />CITY STREETS." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Robinett, Whitehurst <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />02 - 24 - Adoption of an ordinance to rename a street in the Olde Towne Historic District <br />from Hunters Lane to Gaskins Lane. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of an ordinance to rename a street in the Olde Towne Historic District from <br />Hunters Lane to Gaskins Lane. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· The street name change would honor one of the first notable residents in Olde <br />Towne. <br /> <br />· Appropriate City departments have reviewed the proposal without objections. <br /> <br />· No street addresses will be affected by the name change. <br /> <br />· The residents of Olde Towne support renaming the street. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· The financial impact is minimal, such as changing a street sign. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE CHANGING THE NAME OF HUNTER'S LANE TO GASKINS LANE." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Robinett, Whitehurst <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> <br />
