port of Mr. Joseph F. Weaver, City Engineer, addressed to me, defining the location of the
lane. I recommend that the location of the lane, as reported by Mr. Weaver, be adopted.

Inclosure

"Mr. R. Co Barclay,
City Attorney,
Portsmouth, Va.

UPortsmouth, Va;,

Jan. 8th, 1937

Dea~ Sir:
In reference to the location of the lane extending north
from North Street, between Middle and 0curt'Streets, formerly refer-
red to as Herbert's Lane and now commonly called Eastwood's Lmue; the
ls~e is not shown on the available copies of the original map of PorZs-
mouth. The survey made by Bascom Sykes, City Engineer of the City,
adopted by the City Council August 13, 1901, shows the lane as being
open, but does not show its location in reference to Middle and Court
Sis. I have made a survey of the property, and I find that the lame
as it has been opened and used by the public for a sufficient length
of time to make it a public thoroughfare, is ten feet wiie, and that
its east side begins at a point on the north side of-North Street,
distant one hundred and fifteen and five-tenths (115.5) feet west from
the northwest intersection of North mud Middle Streets. It axtends along
a walkway and the rear pbrtion of the house number 308 North Street, be~-
longing to B.P. Pettus, northward,~clearing the west wall of said house..

Yours very truly,

Jos. She
made a special effort to pay the remaining taxes. Under the circumstances, it apoears to
me that Mrs. Corbitt is entitled to have the sum of $~2o40 refunded to her.~ -

Motion of Mr. Lawrence to concur in ~he Attorney's recommendation, was

adopted.

Report of the City Collector, for ~he month of December, 1936, was received
and ordered filed.

Annual report of the Sinking Fund Commission was received and ordered filed:

"I~ORT OF CITY OF PORTSMOUTH-GENERAL SINKING FUND

-FOR PERIOD FROM SEPT. 1, TO DECEMBER 31,1936~

Cash on hand Aug. 31, 1936
Receipts
Annual paymen~ Dec. 30, 1936
Int. on Bonds Sept I ~o Dec. 30
~ "Bank Dep. ?/1 to Dec. 30

73,73 .oo
%7 0.00

$ 367,~43.32

~50,~28.a5'

Disbursements
Bonds Retired

Cash on Hand Dec. 31,

Securities
City of Portsmouth B~nds
" " ~ Note
Cash in Banks
~merican National B~uk
Merchants & Farmers
Citizens Trust Co~

1936

326,7&~.69
72~0~2,91
_ 39,6~Oo85

259,000.00

=_ ooo.oq

809,513~75
