<br />"AN ORDINANCE OF THE BUDGET APPROPRIATIONS FOR THE CITY OF ?ORTSMOUTH,
<br />VIRGINIA, FOR THE YEAR t937"

<br /> Notion of Mr. Lawrence, that a committee of two be-appointed, to act with a
<br />like committee from the Board of. Supervisors of Norfolk County, to consider the advisability
<br />and possibility of building a net City and County Building~ corner Court and Nigh Gte., was
<br />adopted, and the Chairman appointed on said committee, Nessrs. Lawrence and Hutohins.

<br />The following communications from the City 5{anager were read:

<br /> 1st "Effective February let, 1937, the office hours for all city offices
<br />~ill be from'9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., each day, wi~h the exception of Saturday, when the of-
<br />fices will close a~ 12:30. These are the hours observed by .the County and State offices."
<br />
<br /> ~otion of M/% Fox to approve the ~anager~s action, and that the City Attorney
<br />~resent an ordinance covering same, was adopted.
<br />
<br /> 2nd - ~I was compelled to dismiss Assistant Fire Chief L.P. Slater, for the
<br />good of the ~ervice, effective January 18th, 1937.
<br /> Nr. W.B. Sykes, Engineer ~n~the Fire Department, was promoted to the
<br />~osition of Assistant Chief, effective the same date."
