February 9th, 1937. <br /> <br />- NEW BUSINESS - <br /> <br />The following letter was read: <br /> <br /> "The dndersigned, the Eight~ Wards Civic ~_ub of ~he City of Portsmouth, Va., <br />hereby'respectfully petitions you ~o grant us permission to hold a charity circus on the <br />~ythe St. playgrounds, beginning April 19th, 1937, and continuing for a period of six days <br />thereafter. · <br /> <br /> This circus is ~o be held for the purpose of raising funds for the Charity <br />Fund of the Eighth Wards Civic Club, which fund is to be used for relief and charitable pur- <br />poses in the City of Portsmouth. <br /> We would expect ~o pay the license tax required, and comply with all city or- <br />dinances. <br /> Yours very respectfully, <br /> <br /> The Eight Wards Civic Club, <br /> <br /> By Earl Stublen, President., <br /> <br /> Motion of ~lr. Warren to lay on l~ble until next meeting, was adopted. <br /> <br /> The Compensation report for January, for ~he Treasurer, Commissioner of Rev- <br /> Commonwealth Attorney, was received, and on motion of Mr. Hutchins, approved for pay - <br /> <br />enue, <br />merit. <br /> <br /> The City Manager s~ated that he had numerous complaints of the schedules and <br />operation of buses in the City and asked that a committee of three be appointed to investi <br />gate same and report back to the Oouncil. <br /> <br /> Motion to appoint said commitZee was adopted, and the Chair appointed Messrs. <br />Fox, Wilson an~ Grimes on said committee. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Wilson, the privilege of the floor was granted a repreeen - <br />ratine of the Memorial Day Committee. Mr. Higgins asked that the Council aooroorlate $50.00 <br />toward the e_xpense of said committee. '- - <br /> <br />adopted. <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Fox to make an appropriation of $50.00 fo~ said purpose, was <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />Clerk. <br /> <br />Approved <br /> <br />eeThe City Attorney presented the following ordinance: <br /> ~AN ORDINANCE REGULATING OFFICE HOURS FOR CITY OFFICES" <br /> Motion of Mr. Hutchins to place on its first reading, was adopted. <br /> <br /> <br />
