Earl Weiseman, Pearte J. <br /> <br /> Minutes of. regular meeting held February.23rd, were read and ~oprov~d. <br /> <br /> Th~ following communications from the City Manager were read: <br /> <br /> 1st - ~Yesterday morning, Mr. Davis, Superintendent, Water Department, <br />called my attention to the fact that he 'had received notice that pipe would advance ten to <br />fifteen per cent, right-away, and by buying yesterday, what we need'for the Water Department, <br />for immediate use and some time to come, we could save between two and t~hree hundred dollars. <br /> I authorized thC.purchase., <br /> <br />On motion ordered filed. <br /> <br /> 2nd - "I am being deluged with applications for street improvements, from <br />different wards, far in excess of any funds we have available. <br /> We ~are doing the best we can, as fast as we can, to comply with these <br />demands. Improvements ~hat we are unable to make with our limited city f=~ds we are includ- <br />ing in the W.P.A, projects, and we hope to get considerable assistance from that source.~ <br /> <br />On motion ordered'filed. <br /> <br /> 'Motion of Mr. Fox to suspend the order of business to hear representatives of <br />the Carolina Coach Company, was adopted~ <br /> <br /> Mr. Hoffman spoke against She Richmond Greyhound Bus Company acquiring eon - <br />~rol of the Peninsula Transit Corporation, and offered the following resolution: <br /> <br />"RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, IN OPPOSITION TO CREATION OF BUS MONOPOLY <br />BETWEEN THE CITIES AND O0UNTIES OF HA~-TON ROADS AREA <br /> TO AND FROM THE NORTH AND WEST. <br /> <br /> At a meeting of the Council of the 0ity of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />held on 'the 9th day of'March, 193Y, in Portsmouth, it was brought to the <br />at~ention of the Council that the Richmond Gr~yhound Lines, Incorporated, <br />opeTating a pass'enger bus and express service between Balt~imore, Washing- <br />ton and Richmond over U.~. Route No.l~ and between Richmond and the coun- <br />ties and ci~ies of the Hampton Roads area over all of the available routes <br />except those now operated by the Peninsula Transit'Corporation, and also <br />between said territory and the north by the Eastern Shore route, has ap - <br />plied to the Interstate Commerce Commission for authority to acquire con- <br />trol of the Peninsula Transit Corporation b~ the purchase of all of the <br /> <br /> <br />
