<br /> The following report of the Telephone ~ommittee was read and filed:

<br /> ~The Telephone Committee has had a conference with the local Superintendent
<br />of the Telephone Company, bat all the facts as to income, expenses, etc., were not available,
<br />and after considerable discussion, the meeting was adjourned to meet again, as soon as Mr.
<br />Harrison, representing the Telephone Company, can ascertain and assemble the necessary data.

<br />The following communications from the City Manager were read:

<br /> 1st - 'There has been some discor~ and dissensipn, and disloyalty, by some of
<br />the members of the Police Department.
<br /> I have had a conference at my office with several of them, each of whom
<br />has promised co-operation and loyalty in the future.
<br /> The situation iB very much improved, and I hope and believe we shall be
<br />able to get efficient service without making any further changes, for the present.,
<br />
<br />On motion ordered filed.

<br /> 2nd - "The service~ of three very old men, all over seventy years of age, J.H.
<br />Harris, John Lemme and Miles Rountree, have been discontinued, as ~hey are too feeble to work.
<br /> I re¢ommen~ tha~ we retire them at $25.00 per month each. This will no~
<br />increase the total of o~r retirement payroll, as two on the retired list, Mr. WoL. Sykes and
<br />Mr. Noah Hoffler, have recently died. Two of these men are nearly blind, and one of them is
<br />deaf."
