On motion of Mr. Fox, the Treasurer was authorized to pay same from funds in <br />· Her h~nds from collection of Dog Taxes. <br /> <br /> The fqliowing le~terw~$ read a~d referred to the School Board: <br /> <br /> "At a regular'meeting of the Portsmout~ Central Labor Union, held June 1Eth, <br />1~37, a mo~ion was adopted that we go on record in regards to vocational education in Ports- <br />mouth, Va., and Norfolk County, Va. Public $chools~ <br /> The Portsmouth Central Labor Union favors a program whereby the entire voca~ <br />tional education program is confined to the schools, and kept under the direct super~ision of <br />the head of the vocational education department of theCity~ County and State. <br /> This body is in favor of improvement and enlargement of the present program <br />and facilities as soon as possible, and continued until all those who desire a vocational edm <br />ucation may be enabled to procure it. <br /> <br />lie Schools. A program such as this has already been instituted in the Norfolk County Pub- <br /> The C~L.U. went on record as opposing any program other than the one outlined <br />above. <br /> I am sending this form letter to the following: <br />Commerce, Dr. B~H. VanOot, Mr. $.L~ M~ek, and Suot. H~A~ Hunt. <br /> We trust this will meet with the-approval of all <br /> <br />Truly yours <br /> <br />The Portsmouth Chamber of <br />concerned, I beg to remain, <br /> <br /> E.V. Smith, Secretary, <br /> Portsmouth Central Labor Union.~ <br /> <br /> The Compensation report for June of the Treasurer, Commissioner of Revenue <br />and Commonwealth Attorney was presented and on motion of Mr~ Hutchins, approved for payment. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr~ Weisem~n, the privilege of the floor was granted Nr. W.B. <br />Sharer, .who spoke of ~he plan to get new factories in Portsmouth, and stated that he would <br />donate two factory sites valued at $750.00 each, if the City will appropriate $1~500.00, for <br />use qf the Industrial Commission. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Hutchins, t~e ma~ter was referred to the City Manager. <br />On ~otion adjourned. <br /> <br />Approved'- ~/ . / <br />~7~ ' President. <br /> <br />City Clerk. <br /> <br /> <br />
