~e~b~r ~. . 1Q~V_~. - October 12th. l' <br /> <br /> Notion of Mr. Fox to lay on table, was adopted. <br /> <br /> The City Attorney presented the following ordinance, <br />on table u~til next meeting: <br /> <br />which was, on motion, laid <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINAdNCE TO ~AF~ND AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED, 'Ai~ ORDINANCE <br /> IMPOSING A LICENSE TAX FOR THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH~ VIRGINIA, FOR THE <br /> YEAR BEGINNING~AY let, 1937' BY ADDING THERETO A SECTION RELATING <br /> TO: WINDOW WASHERS". <br /> Bill of J. Shirley Hope, State Game Warden, for destroying ninety four tagless <br />dogs at $2.50 each, amounting to $235.00, was received, and on motion of Mr. Fox, the Treas- <br />mrer was authorized te pay same from funds in her hands from collection cf Dog Taxes. <br /> The City Manager stated that he would like to attend the 0ity Managers' Conven- <br />tion, which meets in New Orleans, October 18th - 21st, 1937. <br /> Motion of Mr. Weiseman tm grant the Manager a vacation to attend said conven- <br />tion, and that the Mayor be authorized to perform the duties of the City Manager, in his ab- <br />sence, was adopted. <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />Clerk. <br /> <br />President, <br /> <br />Portsmouth, Va., October 12th, 1937 <br /> <br /> At a regular meeting of the City Council, held October 12th, 193~, at 8:00 P.M., <br />there were present: <br /> <br />John P. Leigh, George L..Grimes, James N. Howard, W. R. Hutchins, C. E. Warren, <br />H.~arl Weiseman, Pearle J. Wilson, City Manager° <br /> <br />Minutes of regular meet. ing held September 28th, were read and approved. <br /> <br />The following communication from the City Manager was read: <br /> <br /> "When Washington Ward was first annexed to the City, there was built a Joint <br />police and fire station.
