let - "I have a letter from the Memorial Day Observauce Cgmmittee, request
lng a donation of $50.00 to defray empenGss.
We made this contribution last year. I recommend that we contribute
the same 8mount this year."
priate $50.00 for said purpose, was adopted.
2nd - "I have a letter from Col. Carruth~ Federal District Engineer, relative
to boa~ harbor at Scoffs Creek.
Vnen cur committee first began negotiations with him, Col. Carruth~s
recommendation was. that the City bear fifty per cent cf ~he cost. At the last conference,
held in his office, we called attention to the fact that Norfolk_ was bearing only twenty five
per cent of the cost for similar work. He has since agreed with us in our contention that
Portsmouth should be dealt with on the same basis. This wilI~ save the City more than $6,000.
Col. Carruth will require that the City build a T head wharf twenty
fee~ wide and one h~udmed feet long, connected with the shore by an ~pproach fifty feet wide
and seventy feet long. He estimated this wharf will cost $~,000.
He also requires a list of all-owners of leos/ boats. So far we have
been unable to assemble this data."

On motion ordered filed.

3rd - "Relative to resolution that was passed on its first reading at last
meeting, regarding twenty four hour shift for the firemen.
Im conference with the Chief of the Fire Department, he expressed the
opinion that by adding ~hree men, he can probably put this twenty four hour shift in effect.
I have decided to give this a trial beginning June let. I mentio~ June let, because that is
the time when our semi-s~mual tax collections begin to come in.
There is no need of any resolution, except to appropriate the funds
to meet the extra cost for the balance of this year."
