March 12th, 1940 taxes on lot number 90. This lot was never owned by him, but 'was owned for a n-amber of years by the street Dar companies and used in connection with the Gilmerton car line. By deed dated October 23rd, 1935~ the Vi_gin~a Electric & Power Company conveyed the land to the City. It will no doubt be used to extend G~een Street into Gosport Road. Mr. Wiseman should be relieved ~f t~e f9llowing taxes.with interest.and pen - alties thereon: 1951- $10.60; 1932- $10.60; 1~33r $10.60; 193¢- $10.bO, 1935- $10.60; ~ ' · 193~L $10.OO; 1935- ~16.00; 1939- $10.OO and 19~0- ~lO.OO." 1936- wlO.oO, Motion of Mr. Weiseman to concur in the Attorney's reoo~aendation, was adopte~I The Attorney presented the following ordinance: "AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING A PE~¢IT TO KEE? OPEN A PLACE FOR THE SLAUGHTERING OF FOWLS; PROVIDING CONDITIONS ~ND PRESCRIBING PEN - ALTIES FOR ITS VIOkcTIONo" On motion of Mr. Fox, said ordinance was placed on its first reading~ Report of the City Collector for February, w~s received and ordered filed. Report of the Accounting DepartmenZ for Feb~aary, was received and ordered filed. The following letter was read: "Mr. Leslie T. Fox, on J~nuary 2~th, 1940, filed with the undersigned a declaration of c~udidacy for City Council from Jackson Ward ¢~th receipt for $12.00 from City Collector. Chapter 40,Section 24 A of Virginia Election Laws reads in part, as follows: ~In the event the candidate who has paid the fee is not opposed, the Treasurer (in this case City Collector) shall pay back the f ce.' Mr. Fox has no opposition for City Council from Jackson ~¢tard, will you there- fore kindly arrange with the City Collector to have this fee of $12.OO refunded to Mr. Fox at your earliest convenience. Attorney Comoensation reports of the Commissioner of Revenue and Commonwealth were presented, and ~n motion o f Mr. Howard, approved for pa~aento Report of F.B. Hill & Company for auditing the fern. books and accounts for January, was received and ordered filed. Privilege of the floor was granted Mrs. Kirkland, Sup~., Social Service Bu- reau, who gave a fine outline of the work in her Bureau. Privilege of the floor was granted Capt. R. E. Acey of the lllth Field Ar tiller~y, Virginia National Guard, who stated that before he came here, his predecessor had contracted several bills, amou~ating to $110~27, for which there is no fund, and asked that the City pay these bills. The City Manager recommended that the City .pay s amc. On motion of Mr. La~-~ence, an appro..pri~tion of $110.2~ was made to pay said bills~ and by the following vote: -~ Ayes: Leigh, Fox, Grimes,.
