~he foliowlng~ reso!u~ion:~ <br /> <br /> "Whereas, the Oity of Portsmouth has provided for use of its, people p!aygro~nd~ <br />and rec~eatiomal centers, as in its Judgment the occasion demands, amd also has provide& one <br />of the most beautiful parks in-the country, ~th a magnificent nine~-~h~ld golf course, yet we <br />find this is not enough to care for ~he dailydemandmsmade~upon our. presen~faa£1i~ies~ but <br />with the additlonalgrounds of the privately owned golf course, w~ have been enabled to take <br />care of the si~tienin a fairly, satisfactory manner. <br /> We are informed that the ground owned by the pri~ate corporation is abo~t to <br />be sold, and if this is done, we will be deprived of this valuable asset which is now greatly <br />in demand. <br /> Portsmouth is growing by leaps and bounds, and the more people we have here, <br />the grea~er are the~demands for playgrouhds amd recreational centers. Omtdoor sports are be - <br />coming more essential to health and the peace amd happiness of our people and money spent for <br />this prupose brings abundant return. <br /> The era of prosperity uoon which we are about ~O enter will no doubt have <br />effect on the prices of real estate and ~ands, and if we are to look to the future, it is ap <br />parent that now is the a¢ceptabl~ time to secure sueh lands that may be needed in the future <br />for athletic and recreational purposes. <br /> Therefore, be it resolved, t~hat we respectfully request your honorable body <br /> to give immediate attention to this important ma~ter. The parcel of land to which we refer <br /> contains about 80 acres, and can be bought at the same price paid for by the o~er, plus in - <br /> retest and taxes, <br /> <br />Rexpectful!y submitted, <br /> <br />Executive Oommtttee, <br /> Portsmouth 0hamber of Oommerce <br /> <br />Geo. O. Diggs, President." <br /> <br /> Privilege Of the floor was granted Mr. Kent Johnston, Mr. T~A~ Wi!lett and <br />Mr. N. O. Lawrence, who spoke in favor of the request in said letter. <br /> <br /> Notion of Mr. Howard to refer to a committee of the 0ounci!, amd the Oity <br />Manager, for investigation and report, was adored. <br /> <br />The Ohair appointed Messrs.
