271 <br /> <br />Au~st 27th, 19'40. <br /> <br />on motion of E~ Pox, placed on its first reading: <br /> <br />"AN OPJ)L~NCE ~O A~END AN ~END.~ENT TO T_,~E LICENSE TAX ORDINANCE <br />ADOPTED JULY 9th~ 1940~'~ <br /> <br />Report of the City Collector for the month of July. was received and ordered <br /> <br />filedo <br /> <br />The following letter was read and referred to. the City Attorney: <br /> <br /> "The personal property tax assessed against me for six years, as ocr attached <br />list, is'in error~.: I do not o%m~ or have not owned any furniture during this per~od.. ! have <br />always boarded and therefore do not own any furniture or personal property~ <br /> I will th~uk you to have this charge relieved. <br /> <br />Yours very truly~, <br /> <br />W. W. ~aters~~ <br /> <br /> Bill of J. Shirley Hope, State G~e Warden, for destroying 81 tab!ess dogs <br />a~ $2.50 each, totaling $202.50~ was oresented, and on motion of Mr. Hu~cnzns~ th~ Treasurer <br />was authorized to pay same from funds in her hands from collection of Dog Taxes. <br /> <br />The following letter was read mad referred to the City Attorney: <br /> <br /> "Mr. J. 0. Peavy has e~oloyed me to recover from the City of Portsmouth his <br />contributions'made from time to time for pension retirement fund. Under Chapter 185 of The <br /> ~ ' -934~ page 237 <br />Acts of the General Assembly, approved Ma~ch 27tn~ 1934, "Acts of <br />titled to the ret,~rn of one-half of ail of %~e amounts taken from his salary, Please !et us <br />have a check for the amount that has been taken inthe paStyoursfOrveryhis truly,retirement or pension fund. <br /> <br />Robt o P.Mc~durrmn.~" <br /> <br /> Report of F~B..Hill for auditing +~a ferry books and accounvs for June, was <br />received and ordered filed. <br /> <br /> Mr. ~$ilson ~tated that it has been a great pleasure to serve on -the' Council <br />with Mr. ~gei~eman, the last four years, and that he is sorry to see him go. <br /> <br /> In response, Mr. Weiseman stated .he was retiring from the Council ,~th good <br />feeling mud that he had been treated royally by the other me~bers, and bid the Council God - <br />~-~peed in the wo~ before it, ~ud commended his auccessor to the members of the Council. <br /> <br />On motion adJourned~ <br /> <br />0!erk. <br /> <br />Approved - <br /> <br /> .President~ <br /> <br /> <br />
