<br /> Minutes of regular meeting held November 12th, and regular adjourned meeting
<br />of November 15th, were read and approved.

<br />Motion of Mr. Fox to.place said ordinance on its first reading, was adopted.

<br /> Motion of Mr. Hutchins that the matter of refunding the
<br />toriumj be referred to the City Manager for investigation and report.

<br /> The City Manager stated that, at a conference of representatives o~ the Gov-
<br />ernment, Mr. Paul Rogers and Commander Fogg, ;~th Mr. Davis and himself, in reference to a new
<br />30~ Dice line from Portsmouth to Suffolk, .he was assured by the Government officials that if
<br />the ~i~y would ag~e~ to pa~y on~ fourty (1/4) of the cost, they would recon~mend that the Gov -
<br />ernment pay three-fourths ~3/4), with every indication of same being approved in ~ashington,
<br />and that we thank Congressman Darden, Admiral Simons, Commander Fogg, Captain Ryden and
<br />Paul Rogers, for their services in this mat~er. He recommended that the Council approve the
<br />payment by the City of one-fourth (1/$) of the cost of said pipe line.

<br />Motion of Mr. Hutchins that we concur in the Manager's recommendation, was

<br />The following communications from the City A~torney, were read:
<br />
<br /> 1st - "In connection ~th the letter of R.L. Hutchins, Commissioner of the
<br />Revenue, referred'to me at your ls. st meeting, I find theft the State Csrporation Commission of
<br />Virginia assessed the property of the Portsmouth Gas Company for the year 1950 the sum of
<br />$512,885. The tax on this amount is $12,882.12. The Commissioner of the'Revenue by error in-
<br />cluded in the assessment reported by him the values placed against the property of the Company
<br />in Deep Creek and ~estern Branch Magisterial Districts of Norfolk County, or a total of
<br />~563,616'
<br /> The figures ~hould be correczed as stated in Mr. Hutchins' letter,
<br />and the Portsmouth ~as Csmpany should be charged with taxes amounting to $12,822.12 and it
<br />should be relieved of $1,268.28 erroneously charged." '
<br />
<br />Motion of Mr. Fox to concur in the Attorney's recommendation, was adopted.
