I'understand that the 30 inch wood s~ave main has carried
away completely.and is no longer in.service, ~o tha~ the water s~oply for t~his whole area is
totally dependent upon two 20 inch cast iron mains. I further understand that considerable
difficulty is being experienced in meeting present water demands. As you k~ow, the summer
months always bring an increased demand for water; also there is a considerable probability
that there will be an increased demand from the Navy Yard due to additional ships here for re-
pairs and from new facilities going into operation. There are at least three large housing
p~oJects under contract by the Government, as well as a considerable amount of private con -
struction.
Despite the fact that t~-zis project has been authorized for several weeks,
and the statement I recently saw in the paper that contract had been placed for the pipe, I
understand that further delay is being caused by discussioD concerning the type of pipe to be
used.
t wish to point out to you the urgent.need for~xpeditious completion of
and urge
this prSJec~ as a vital need of ti~e wh~le Community as well as the Navy Yard, to %hat
every pos~Ible effort be made to complete it at the e.arlie?~ possible date.

Very trul~ yours,

M.H.
