The~following letter ~s read and referred to the City Attorney: <br /> <br /> "I am assessed on the city tax books with personal property taxes for the <br />years 1932 to 1941 inclusive. <br /> I moved to Portsmouth in 1932 for two months and returned again in 1934. Tn <br />1936, I broke up housekeeping, sold my furniture, and have been bo&rding at 2209 King St. with <br />Mt. Dan Barnes since that.time. This can also be verified by Mr. ~Walter ~Hintom at ?OOMt. Vet - <br />non Ave., as I have been taking my meals with him since 1936. I owe tax~s for 1932, 1934, <br />1935 and 1936. I will thank you to have the other years cancelled, and relieve me of the <br />taxes that are charged in error. <br /> <br />Yours very truly, <br /> <br /> E.R._Bryan." <br />~ne following letter was read: <br /> <br /> "On ~he night of April 3Otb, 1941, the Portsmouth Concert Orchestra gave a <br />concert in the city auditorium for the benefit of the War Relief Fund of the Salvation Army <br />The orchestra also used the auditorium the night of April 29~h, for rehearsal. ~or the use <br />of the auditorium ~hese two nights, the Salvation Army paid $20.00 rental. <br /> Since the entire oroeeeds of the concert were sent to the War Relief Fund <br />of the Salvation Army, and no loc&l-persons or organizations derived any profits therefrom, <br />the Salvation Army respectfully requests that, if it be the oleasure of the City Council, the <br />$20.00 rental shall be refunded to the local funds of the Salivation Army. <br /> <br />Very sincerely, <br /> <br />K. E. Moss, Adjutant." <br /> <br /> Notion of Mr. Howard that we make said refund of $20.00 was adopted. <br /> <br /> The ConDensation report 6f the Commissioner of Revenue for April was re - <br />ceived, and on motion of Mr. ~ox, approved for payment. <br /> <br /> Report of ~.B. Hill &Oompany for auditin~ the ferry books snd accounts for <br />the-month of Earth was received and ordered filed. <br /> <br />Oo~mlttee. <br /> <br />The Manager recommended an appropriation of $50°00 to the 0entr~l Memorial <br /> <br />as yet, <br /> <br /> Motion of Mro Wilson to make said ~opropriation of $50.00 was adbpted. <br /> <br /> Mr. Warren stated that recreatioh centers wB~re provided for the schools, <br />nothing had been done about the center for Jefferson St. School. <br /> <br />but <br /> <br /> On'motion~ of Mr. Howard, the Manager was authorized to secure price for land <br />to be purchased fbr the center for the Jefferson Bt.
