<br />tee, elected officers and formulated plane for the general observance of Flag Week, June 7th
<br />to 14th.
<br /> This Oommittee will endeavor to arrange for a g~neral display of flags, pa -
<br />triotic cards and emblems throughout the City for the entire week and plans to .have different
<br />organizations put on patriotic pz~grs~s during the .week's observance. The Committee also hopes
<br />to persuade ~hepaetors of every church in the City of all demominations to preach pa~riotic
<br />serm6ns on Sunday, June 8th, and sub-committees were ~opointed by the 0hairman to carry out all
<br />of thio work. The 0ommittee hopes this program will be continued from year to year.
<br /> The Committee believes that this year~s Flag Observance Week is highly impor -
<br />rant and if properly handled, will go far to combat certain subversive activities abroad in. our
<br />own 0ity ~nd State and bring about better racial and religious tol~rsnce and make the people in
<br />general more conscious of what our flag really stands for.
<br /> The Committee needs funds to carry out this program and has voted to request
<br />the City Oouncil to appr6priate t~e sum of $Y5.OO to be u~ed as a working~ fund.. The Committee
<br />expects to make up any deficit from donations from the various organizations ~nterested in this

<br /> Notion of ~. Grimes to concur in the ~nager~s recommendation and that the
<br />period for payment of licenses without penalty be extended to June 5th, was adopted~

<br /> Bill of J. Shirley Hope, State Game Warden, for destroying seventy five tag~
<br />less dogs at $B. 50 .each, totaling ~187.5©, was reoeived~ and on.motion of Nr. Howard, the
<br />Treasurer was authorized to pay same from funds in her hands from collection of Dog Taxes.

<br /> The Acting City Nanager reported th~.t the stadium wo~ld be completed within
<br />ten d~ys or two weeks and that, e~ter the construction organization is wit~hdra~, the stadium
<br />will be more or lees an orphan from the City's standpoint, and it is imperative that the Oity
<br />0ounoil adopt some pa~ent policy for the operation of the s radium.

<br /> Notion of Mr. HutcD~ns that the m~tter be referred to the original committee,
<br />the 0ity Nam~ger ~n&City Attorney, to report on future operation, was adopted.

<br /> These taxes were assessed against household furniture a~ llU~ ~lnwld~le ~.,
<br />and I have never owned any orooerty of this character at that address.
<br /> The household furniture at 1108 Dinwiddie St. was owned by Mrs. Annie A.
<br />Snapp, and upon investigation, it was learned that for the years 1929, 193l, 1936 and 1937~
<br />assessments were made against both Mrs. Snapp andmysslf.
<br /> Your attention is further called to the fact that I h~ve tendered checks
<br />in payment of all taxes properly assessed against me, as well as check in payment of my city
<br />automobile licenses, all of which have been refused and returned on account of my unwillingness
<br />~o pay the disputed ts~xes referred to above, i again request that you give this matter your
