July 22nd, lq~! <br /> <br /> At a red, tar meeting of the City Council, held July 22nd, 1941, at 7:00 P.M., <br />there were present: <br /> <br />Leslie T..Fox~ George L. Grimes, Russell M. Hall, James N. P~ward, <br />W. R. Hutchins~ Pr~uk Do Lawrence, O. E. Warren, Pearle J. Wilson, <br />and M. E. Haug, City i~nager. <br /> <br /> Minutes of regular~mee~ing held July 8th were r cad and approved. <br /> <br /> Privilege of the floor was granted Mr. Jas. G. 'Martin, who presented the <br />lowing resolution: <br /> <br />fol - <br /> <br />"At a meeting of the Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Association, held <br />this 9th day of June, 1941, the following proceedings were had: <br /> <br />On motion, duly seconded, it was unanimously <br /> <br />Reso!ved~ That the proper authorities of the City of Portsmouth <br />and of the County of Norfolk be requested to promptly furnish <br />more space for the offices of the Clerks of the Court of Hustings <br />for the City of Portsmouth and the Oirouit Court of ~orfolk <br />County~ and that better lighting be furnished in those offices. <br /> <br />It was further resolved~ that the 0ommittee of t~his Association <br />on Courts of Justice present copies of the resolutions to the <br />proper authorities and ask compliance therewith. <br /> <br /> I aertify that the foregoing is a ~rue copy of the minutes <br />of the said meeting~ <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Howard to refer to the City Manager, was adopted. <br /> <br /> The following communications from the City Manager were read: <br /> <br /> l~t J "The terms of the sale Of certain lots in Pinners Point, which <br />authorizied by the City Council, on September 10th, 19'40, authorized ~he proper officers of <br />the City to executes necessary deeds conveying the property to George T~ McLean. <br /> The said George T. McLean has now requested deeds for ten lots on <br />wi~ich houses have been ~built, known as lots 400~409, inclusive. <br /> I respectfully recommend that the attached deed be properly executed.~ <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Hutehins to concur in the Manager's recommendation, was adopted <br /> <br /> 2nd ~ "I~ order to gain access to our water line right of way, adjacent to <br />the Seaboard Air Line Railroad, during the construction of the new thirty inch water main from <br />Suffolk to Portsmouth, ,it was necessary that there be constructed three temporary road cross- <br />ings across the Virgini~an B~ilroad. <br /> ~e Virginian Railroad reouired that the City si~n ~ contract in <br />which we would be tiabl's~for any damage caused by our neglect.
