These increases have been caused by the great expansion in the service neces-
sary in the.past year, and by the increase in prices and the hiring of additional personnel.
~hile our responsibilities are still increasing alonE-with the expansion of Government activi-
ties, I believe that the above amount will take care of our needs, ~th the exception of any
extraordinary expenditures we may encounter."
l~tion of Er. Howard to ~propriate $3?,?65. oo for said purpose, was adopted,
The following request of the Manager for an appropriation to purchase six
motor cars, laid on table at last meeting, was taken up:

"We now have six motor oars from six to nine years old, and several motorcy-
cles needing replacement. One car andone motorcycle are now beyond reasonable repair and laid
up.
All of this equipment will, of necessity, have to be replaced in next year' s
budget, and I firmly believe that equipment will b e scarce and prices high at that time.
I respectfully recommend t~hat the following appropriation be made for motor
cars and motorcycles:

Fire Departmen~
License Inspector & Sealer
of Weights & Measures ~5.OO
