6th - "The United Sta~es of America has acquired title to the land at the
southwest corner of Crawford and South Sts., and has s~arted clearing the ground to erect a
UoS.O. Recreational building. This site is on ~he edge of the Fire District and is included
within its limits and the building p~opcsed to be erected does not have masonry walls as re -
quired by the Building Code°
I have discussed the matter with .Lieut. Col. Burgheim and he informs
me~that if the O~ty inSist~'~On a.different type of building, the City will either have to pay
the additional cost oP the appropriation will be withdrawn, as it is impossible te secure a
larger appropriation.
After considering ~he location and the fact that so many buildings
in the immediate localities have been demolished, I see no objection to the erection cf the
proposed building and it is my belief that the City should take no action to endeavor to stop
the erection of the building, as the property is in the name of the United ~tates Government."
