Fox offered'the following resolution: <br /> <br />"WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, in voting <br />to withdraw from the Hampton Roads Sanitation District, believed it <br />to be to the beat interests of the ts~ayers, and <br />~LEREAB, J.g. Taussig, Chairman of said Commission, haspublicly <br />expressed the opinion theft Portsmouth's desire to withdraw from said <br />Commission is due solely to st~oidity and cussedness, and <br />~EREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth feels that such ex - <br />pressions clearly show prejudice on the part of ~he Chairman of said <br />Commission, <br />NOW, THEREFORE~ Be it Resolved that the Council of the City of Ports- <br />mouth resents such implication by J.K. Tauseig, as Chairman of the <br />Hampton Roads Sanitation Commission, and f eels that the matter should <br />be brought ~o the attention of the Governor of Virginia~ by whom <br />such appointment as Chairman is made." <br /> <br />vote: <br /> <br />On motion of'Mr. Wilson, said resolution was adopted, ~nd by the fol!o~ng <br /> <br />Ayes: Leigh, Fox, Grimes, Hall, Howard, Hutchins~Lawrence,~arren,~ilson <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />The following letter was read: <br /> <br /> "A few weeks before Mr. J.L~igh, ~ayor of the City of Portsmouth, was stricke~ <br />I appealed through him to you in behalf of the Sisters of Charity teaching in Our Lady of Vic- <br />tory ~chool this City, for a refund of ~25.OO paid for the use of the City Auditorium. <br /> Annually, you have graciously shown us that generosity because we give a pla <br />there to raise funds in order $o carry on the educational work among the Negro youth of this <br />City. <br /> We regret that we have not heard from you to date. Please do not turn down <br />tb~s urgent request because that small sum me,ns so much to us. <br /> Asking God to bless all of you~ <br /> Sincerely yours~ <br /> <br /> Father Habets & Sisters of Charity." <br />Motion of Mr~ Grimes ~o make said refund of $25.00 was adopted. <br /> <br /> Bill of J. Shirley Hope, State Gmme Warden, for destroying seventy two tag- <br />less dogs at $2.50 each, totaling $18Oo00, was received, and on motion of Mr. Lawrence, the <br />Treasurer was ~uthorized to pay said bill from funds in her h~uds from collection of Dog Taxes <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />Approved <br /> <br />0ity Clerk. <br /> <br /> <br />
