<br /> The 01ty of Portsmouth, State of ~irginia, hereinafter referred to as the
<br />City, and the Virginia Department cf Highways, hereinafter referred to a s the Highway Depart -
<br />ment, hereby agree as follows:

<br /> 1. That the Highway Dep~rtme~ will submit a project for the improvement
<br />of 2.1y4 miles of the Defense Access Road from Sra. O~2 to Sra. 115$ 16.3 known as Gosport
<br />Road, and to be designated as Virginia Project No. 12g% N2, and will recommend its approval by
<br />the Commissioner of Public Roads Administration for construction with funds apportioned te ~he
<br />State under %he Defense Highway Act of 1941, subject, however, to the condition that the 0ity
<br />of Portsmouth shall provide for its proper maintenance after completion of its improvement°
<br /> ~. That the said Olty of Portsmouth hereby requests 'the Highway Depart -
<br />merit $o submit Tae aforementioned project with recommendation that it be approved b~ the Oom-
<br />missioner of Public Roads Administration and agrees ~hat if such project is approved and con -
<br />stru¢~ed by the Highway Department and t~he Oemm~ssloner of Public R~ads Administration, it
<br />~hereafter, at l~s own cost and expens$, will maintain ~he project in a manner satisfactory to
